I’m trying not to limit this, but this thread’ll probably still sink like a stone like the rest of mine. Don’t care! Happy!
My Amazon order came yesterday with… yes! The Quantum Leap soundtrack! (and the last season but I can’t listen to that at work. Actually I probably can’t watch it until after the semester is done. Homework sucks monkey balls, a’right?) It was produced in 93 (and has an ad about tapes!) I found out about it from Launchcast - I rated it HIGHLY and always squee when any of the songs come on… actually I take that back, I have a few of them that I downloaded probably eight years ago, but I didn’t know where they were from.
Anyway, it makes me happy and nostalgic and sad.
Sad? Well, the opening title makes me sad as well as, um, four of the other songs. The Medley from Man of La Mancha makes me happy and squee-y. The Alphabet Rap makes me, well, kinda embarrassed and happy.
But it has Scott Bakula singing, instrumental stuff, and Dean Stockwell singing (only the Alphabet Rap. Who cares? It’s AL!)
So, to make this more open, what have y’all* bought lately that makes you happy and squee-y?
(SQUEE! Fate’s Wide Wheel! Sam singing Glitter Rock! SQEEEEE!)
*No, I’m not Southern or anything. I’m from California. I blame my aunt. I use double negatives too sometimes.
It’s been so long since I’ve seen that show, but damn, I loved it. I understand your joy, STG, though I don’t remember there being enough material for a soundtrack album!
I always found it amusing that the easiest way to explain the concept to someone who had never seen it was to simply recite the theme word for word.
I just a few days ago bought the book “On the Oil Lands with Cities Service”, an in-house book for Cities Service Oil. I had a friend that retired from there in the early nineties, and he lent me his book in 98. I was a history major, and I had mentioned this to him, he brought this book to work, and said I could read it “since I was interested in history.” I was irritated, but then I read the book, and could not put it down! I finally gave it back to him, and began to look for a copy for myself. On Half.com, it was always 50 or more bucks, which was too much for me. That is, when it was even on Half.com, and since it was an inhouse produciton, no major publishers had it, and I think it was a onetime print.
Last week: 10 bucks, plus shipping!
I am so thrilled…it is in perfect condition, and I look at it every night before going to bed.
Well, there’s only 16 tracks. And one of them is a short interview with Scott Bakula. But it’s AWESOME.
I’d link to the Amazon listing for it, which should have the track listing, but Amazon is blocked at work, so I shall do one better: http://music.yahoo.com/release/42394 There, you can listen to 30-second tidbits.
It’s got Sam singing Imagine. And TWO of Sam as Elvis. And you know how a lot of times you get a CD and all it’s got is a double-sided piece of paper with the album cover and the song listing? Not this! It’s got the songs listed WITH episode names, pictures, a bit from Don Bellisario, and info about the two music authors.
…okay, that’s not really THAT exciting, but they made the effort. And it has the episode names, so that’s good.
Yay! Alphabet Rap!
(I am a geek. A childish squeeing geek. And I am not ashamed!)
Well I haven’t bought it yet, damn rent and all, but I just found out they made a Highlander animation series. I love Highlander and I love cartoons. This will be sweet sweetness when I get it in a week or two.
Uh, rent it first. Seriously. It’s… um, not very Highlander at all. I’m not going to say it sucks, cuz its been way too long since I watched it, but from all reports it’s… of questionable quality.
I bought a new copy of the book To Kill A Mockingbird because my old copy was in tatters, each page loose. I read it anyway, but then I find out that somehow the last few chapters have disappeared, fallen out and lost during a move no doubt. Now I have a brand new copy that I can again wear to tatters. That made me happy.
I’ve been in a state of utter glee for the last week since getting the new B-52’s album. Their first in 16 years! I’ve been a huge fan for a very long time, and it’s better than I dared even hope!
