Yelling at each other about 9/11 (Split from the "How has Trump pissed you off today" thread)

Thanks for that. That looks like a pretty horrible experience.

Yeah, I get the same number. So in round numbers, each 767 impacted the tower with nearly 100 times – two orders of magnitude – more force and energy than the B-25 that hit the Empire State Building, plus on top of that the latent energy of thousands of gallons of jet fuel.

This is a video of a blacksmith describing what happens when steel is heated to 1800 degrees, which is hotter than jet fuel but not how enough to melt.

Short version: it gets really weak.

A useful video, but I wasn’t questioning why WTC 1 & 2 collapsed. I was questioning why WTC7 collapsed later that same day, you know, the one that hadn’t been hit by a plane carrying jet fuel. Several wise and polite individuals have given their explanations for this.

And have you accepted any of these explanations and, if so, which ones?

Because it was hit by a building, and caught fire, and no one could get in there to put the fire out.

With the caveat that I’m no expert in these matters, but when we talk about “how hot” something burns, we’re assuming nominal conditions, typically small quantities at ordinary atmospheric pressure and temperature. But there’s no hard limit to how hot a fire can become as long as heat is being injected into it faster than heat can escape and the burning substance can continue to burn.

Thus, while traditional blast furnaces typically burn coke, more modern ones are augmented with natural gas even though gas doesn’t burn at a particularly high temperature. The temperature inside the core of a large forest fire can reach as high as 2000°F even though it’s basically just burning wood, and rapidly burning jet fuel likely produced even hotter core temperatures because of the extremely rapid large-scale combustion. Our friend the blacksmith should maybe have been even more emphatic in his dismissal of the CT cranks, because temperatures inside parts of the WTC may have been even higher than the 1800°F that he showed turning structural steel into a noodle.

Excellent. Have your other questions been answered as well? If not, which ones remain?

Remember, he has not actually said that any of the answers given have been accepted by him.

That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp.

And then the swamp caught on fire.

An ordinary furniture fire brought down a single-story steel building, roughly the equivalent of a single floor in either Tower, in less than an hour.

47 floors of foam-padded office furniture could get quite hot, no jet fuel needed.

I feel like this is a lead-in to another JD Vance joke…

No jet fuel but plenty of lube and Scotchgard. Quite hot!

His flag is at half-mast every 6/18 in remembrance.

Hot? That couch was SMOKIN!

Vance knows the lingo: he’s a PUA, looking for a SHC

aw never mind

I’m glad I went to college, and I learned a lot…

… because I listened to lectures from assholes.

Pickup Artist and Single Hot Couch.

Guessing.

How about this thing?
