Yellow Ink

I looked around and didn’t see this question so if it’s been answered 1000 times before don’t blow me up.

I just went off the maintenance contract for our workcenter and had to order the ink cartridges for the first time. Ordered black, magenta, cyan and they were all in the 40 to 50 dollar range. Then I ordered the yellow cartridge. It came up 294 dollars. WTH? I thought they had the price plugged in wrong so I went shopping and it was +/- 294 all over the place.

Why? What makes the yellow cartridge so expensive? I know it has to be an additive but what? Saffron? Do they even use that for ink?

Can you give us a little more info? What brand, for instance. I have never seen this before.

Its for an HP CM8050 Workcentre.

I’m looking in HP’s website. The black cartridge is $40.80 and each of the three color cartridges is $294.50.

Yep. You’re right. I just called the place I ordered from and she told me the magenta and cyan I ordered today were the last two on my service contract, hence the low price. So that makes all the color ones the same price.

Which still sucks but makes waaaay more sense now. Sorry to bother you.

It is made from the tears of angels.

Well that makes me feel better since I know the guys are gonna use it to print porn when I’m not looking.

So what that $50 cost price, $300 retail ?

Well, it’s $50 while we are on the maintenance contract. I’m sure at what they charge us per copy they are getting their money back.

Isn’t that racist?

It might help you feel better to know those cartridges are rated for around 75,000 pages. EDIT: Ok I checked, closer to 50,000. But still a lot.

It’s not the cost of the ink, it’s the cost-per-page, and you’re getting a pretty good deal all-told.
