Because it’s all a part of them “being here for me,” which if you’d read for context you’d have noticed was my peeve. And if the power goes out, I don’t listen to the radio anyway, I break out the candles and a book or a deck of cards.
Mostly it’s business as usual, with delays.
Now wildfires and earthquakes like they gots in California - that’s scary stuff.
I have whinged about the weatherhuman staffing at the TV station in Hartford CT several times.
Damn drama queen has panic attacks if it is 1 degree warmer or cooler than the ‘average temperature’ for that day. Oh my god it is HOT, Oh my god it is COLD…
The slightest flurries are a sign to scream about the blizzard, a few raindrops is a monsoon, 34 degrees fahrenheit and he is screaming about black ice.
And he starts singing at the drop of a hat, and at 5:55:55 he shakes a cowbell and screams 5 55 55 several times.
I love western NY. flurries, and CT highways shut down. NYS Throughway a few flurries and they might slow down from 80 to 65. And the weatherman doesnt shake a cowbell or burst into song.
Candles are a fire hazard. It’s better to use a battery-operated lantern.
If possible, it’s worse here in Southern California where we have no weather to speak of. At least when weather people in Buffalo or Chicago or Boston get over-exuberant, they might actually have something to report.
Take that sort of idiotic obsession with the weather, and plonk it down in a place where just about every day in winter is high-60s and fine, and every day in summer is high-70s and fine, and you’ve got a recipe for complete and total idiocy. Despite the fact that our weather here is completely benign about 360 days a year, they still manage to devote about one-third to one-half of every local news broadcast to it.
Oh, come on! Here in SoCal we get all the “Winter Storm Warnings” every time it fuckin’ rains! It’s like “Oh my God, LA might get up to an inch of rain!!!” Of course, in LA they drive in the rain like DC drivers drive in the snow - in other words, they are idiots. In any case, the news will try to make anything they can into a “dramatic” end of the world scenario as they might increase their ratings a few point and then they can charge more for comercials.

Your point is extremely well taken. Allow us to fill in the gaps. To wit:
º Lindsey Lohan was appointed Lieutenant Governor of California.
º Egypt fell.
º The Very Large Hadron Collider at CERN created a wormhole and most of Switzerland as we knew it is gone.
º Dolly Parton has announced that she will no longer work from 9 to 5, claiming " It ain’t no way to make a livin’ ".
º Leslie Nielson is still dead.
º Ottomanelli’s has veal cutlets for only $ 6.99/ lb.
As for the OP, I’m in New York. The Storm Centers are mighty annoying. I’ve gone almost exclusively to internet-based storm tracking. What’s better than watching the radar in motion and deciding for myself how things look??

I work Field Service and our boss told us that unless one of our primary customers are threatening to drop us as their provider, don’t go out.
So I got two paid days of sitting on my butt watching movies (I gave up on weather news after about a half-hour of their bullshit).
We had about half the office working from home or arriving in the afternoon yesterday, and even a few still today. It was a very odd storm. Snow in one direction, ice in the other, and sleet here in the middle.
I was surprised to find, when I walked over yesterday, that what fell as sleet for eight or nine hours felt just like snow when I walked on it. I was expecting it to be slippery and slidy, but I had a good footing. (We’ll see what it feels like when the melt gets down to the layer of ice underneath.)
Sad thing is this will inevitably lead to others following suit. Lowest common denominator and all…
NY Light and Power: We know you’re afraid of the dark. We’re here for you.
This, especially in the well-off and heavily-taxed northern suburbs, where practically half of the municipal road budget is for snow removal. Somewhere is a salt mine whose entire output goes just to Amherst. That seven foot snowfall Buffalo had in 2001? Yeah, Amherst had the roads cleared throughout most of it even the side streets and cul-de-sacs.
A couple of weeks ago, I was in a hotel bar back in Buffalo. A man from Miami commented on the blizzard outside; about a foot of snow was on the ground, tiit was about 5F outside, and there was some decent lake effect coming down. I laughed, the bartender laughed, and some locals at the bar laughed, because in Buffalo, that’s just flurries. Streets still open? Traffic still moving? No school closings crawling on the tube? No WGRZ Weather Center 2 Extreme Storm Team coverage? Flurries.
On the other hand, since it was a wormhole and not just a run-of-the-mill black hole, we now have direct access to Narnia. Physicists, literary scholars and theologians are divided as to the implications.
Ahem. No. Someone want to give it up for Livingston County (formerly home to the largest salt mine in the free world)?
My grandpa always favored KMOV so I always associate that with him so I won’t watch it. Not bad feelings just sad ones maybe? Or I think it’s the “old people” news channel? Ha?
KSDK is my channel, they are ugh too sometimes but WAY better than the weirdos at Fox 2. Channel 11 is a joke.
KSDK was patting themselves on the back tons too. WE TOLD YOU FIRST etc etc OMG WE TOLD YOU FIRST THE STORM IS OVER and OMG WE BOUGHT THE LAST 4 BAGS OF ICE MELT AT THE GAS STATION THERES NO MORE ICE MELT HERE WE TOLD YOU FIRST. Who the fuck cares? My car is still covered in ice. And why’d you buy the last of the ice melt, jerks?
And it snowed AGAIN overnight, good call on that one - a dusting you said? 3 more inches. Good thing we had sunshine today.
Its funny. I do enjoy when theres actually ice predicted a certain station (I forgot which) starts out with the background song ice ice baby.
Then the other night, channel 5 had a chat! Yes, we could all post stuff like oh wow, its freezing rain here. oooh snow. Stuff like that.
Someday I hope to hear, its sunny out, nothings going on, next up with sports…
