Oh hey, Brynda. about meeting the In-laws. When I first met Mr zoogirl and it was looking serious, we came out to stay with his brother and sister-in-law. That evening, we were deciding what to do, so Mr. zoogirl suggested I should go out with them and get to know them while he stayed with their kid. Well, since we were going bar hopping, I got done up in true 1980 style-lowcut black tshirt, high heeled boots to the knee and about a pound of makeup, topped off by a black satin jacket. NOT “meet the parents” material!
As we were driving downtown, Wayne decided he better stop by the house to pick something up. Of course they decide I may as well come in and meet Mom and Dad! So there I am, looking like a Hastings street special, and without Mr zoogirl to back me up. Future MIL turns out to be very Scottish and utterly terrifying! Mr. is Canadian and quite friendly, but I can see them both thinking " Oh God, what has he dragged home this time!"
Twenty years later, I get along fine with the MIL, (The FIL has passed on) but I’m still trying to make up for that first impression and I won’t say anything stronger than darn in front of her!
