Well, if the OP wants to put forth the idea that there a few rotten apples in the Catholic Laity, you can take that up with him. Do you honestly believe that that his OP was crafted in that manner? Remember, it’s a sin to lie!
Oh, no, all lay Catholics are of saintly character; many are perfectly legitimate businessmen.

I was born and raised a Catholic, and I still practice it, though deep inside and my wife knows this, I’m an atheist.
Short reply to the OP: religion is just religion. It’s a human invention. Boohoo to you if you let it screw up your life. In the same way, science is just science. I’m not that warm to it either.
Difference is, whether science screws up your life or not has little to do with whether you let it.

Why anyone ever bothers to argue about Catholicism to Catholics is beyond me. If demonstrably batshit things like virgin birth, resurrection, transubstantiation or covering up for pedophiles won’t make them leave, there’s no getting through to them using reason.
That does not mean it is not “demonstrably batshit.” Many unfalsifiable things are. And all the elves in Iceland will back me up on that.
John_Mace:
I’m an atheist who thinks the RCC is an ossified bureaucracy half-stuck in the middle ages, so I’m not particularly keen on defending them, but I don’t see why they have to crack down on every lay group that goes off the reservation everywhere on the globe. If people want to be butthurt about this, so be it. I guess we can all manufacture a bunch of outrage if we really want to.
OK, but the Catholic League is always fair game and so is Donohue, understood?

Same old story. More revelations of past wrong doing.
The Shocking Ways California Catholic Church Officials Protected a Priest Who Molested 26 Kids
The priest preyed on immigrant children, threatening them with deportation.
January 28, 2013
Confidential letters between Los Angeles Catholic church officials that had been withheld for decades–despite long efforts by victims to obtain them and stonewalling by the Church–were released Monday after becoming part of a civil court case against a priest accused of molesting 26 Los Angeles children in the 1980s.
The notes from then-Archbishop Roger M. Mahony and Monsignor Thomas J. Curry, published by the Los Angeles Times, have provided even more insight as to how sexual- abuse accusations against priests have been covered up for years.
Another cover-up story at a high level.

A simple test of the supposed facts would be for a colored die to be put in the supposed source of the water to see if it leaks out of the statue in the new color.
Just don’t let the color be red as the believers would now be seeing tears of blood.
Sanal Edamaruku could have just stated he is a new prophet and that within a few hours it will begin weeping tears of blood over the persecution he has faced at the hands of the church (adds dye to water source)
