Yet Another "Identify This Sci-Fi Book" Request

I’ve been thinking about doing this for several years actually. Sometime in the past, maybe about 15 years ago, I read a book one of my parents had checked out of the library. Anyway, it was written as a memoir of a man starting with a scene where he, after having had some surgery to allow for quick “sex changes” was playing most or all of a Shakespeare play by himself. Then it went back to his youth followed by him having had his puberty arrested to allow him to play a child role in a television show for a long time while mentally becoming an adult. Then he eventually stopped doing that, “grew up” in about a week, and eventually works back around to the beginning of the novel.

I think this is a bare-bones outline. Ring any bells for anyone?

The Golden Globe, by John Varley - I’ve be waiting for the sequel for ages. If you search the sdmb, you’ll find a post from the author about the Golden Globe. (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=7914743)

Asterion - I’m bumping this so you see the answer…
