Yet another song grouping (superheroes)!

Waitin’ for a Superman - Flaming Lips

Tarmac - Hazeldine

Life on Mars? - David Bowie

Well, if Mickey Mouse counts as a superhero (and there is a case to be made for it), then add Mickey’s Son and Daughter* by the Bonzo Dog Band.

A friend of mine who has time on his hands that I could only wish for created an internet radio station devoted to superhero songs.

Superhero Radio

Do non-existant superheroes count? If so, there’s The Fall’s “How I Wrote ‘Elastic Man’.”

Whoa, I’m looking back over this thread and no one mentioned Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman”.

Would Joe Satriani’s “Surfing with the Alien” from Surf on This Earth count, since the alien in question (based on the album cover) is the Silver Surfer?

Well, there’s always “Superman” by the Atlanta Rhythm Section, but it would seem the album “Back Up Against the Wall” is out of print. Too bad – it’s a good song.

I have one! I have one! Except I don’t know the name of it or who sings it :smack:

It came out in early 2000s / late 90s(maybe earlier on the east/west coasts)and it was a nifty little pop ditty. The singer is female and part of the lyrics are " I don’t ever want to (leave this place?)… I am a super hero. At least I think that’s what they are.
I’ve googled it aplenty; waaaay before this thread came up. I sure would like to know what it is as I remember liking it a lot (so much so that I can’t remember anything else about it).

I Whipped Superman’s Ass
I Wupped Batman’s Ass

both by Wesley Willis.

I’m so glad I got to see him live before he died.

How soon we forget: Iron Man by Black Sabbath!

“Save Me” by Aretha Franklin: “Call in the Caped Crusader, Green Hornet, Kato, too/I’m in such a world of trouble I don’t know what to do…”

Our Lady Peace: Superman’s Dead
Frank Black: Man of Steel

I know the OP said no theme songs, but the Ramones did a really cool cover of Spiderman.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Does whatever a spider can

Ah, so THAT’S what “Particle Man” was parodying.

Comic Books by Deborah Harry from her album Def, Dumb, and Blonde

And “Sgt Rock Is Going to Save Me.”

Pink Floyd’s “Cymbeline” has a passing mention of Doctor Strange.

Queen’s “Bicycle Race” contains the line, “I don’t believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman…”

Frank Zappa’s “Metal Man Has Won His Wings” mentions the Metal Men and Hawkman. The lyrics were improvised by Captain Beefheart from a Metal Men comic pinned up on the studio wall. More than you care to know about this song here.

Gigantor - The Dickies
