If you have, watch your email…I got four weird emails a couple days ago that each said:
"We recently tried to charge your credit card for your HomeTownFavorites.com order (order #XXXXX) and it was rejected by the bank because it has not complete infomation.
To update the credit card infomation details for your order, please select this link:
http://HomeTownFavorites.info/veri.php?orderid=XXXXX&zip=XXXXX
Thanks!
HomeTownFavorites.com"
Which was weird, because we hadn’t ordered anything from there since May, and even if we had ordered recently, that’s pretty suspicious. So, I went off to the website and found their customer service email and forwarded the message asking what was up, and this is what I got back:
"Webfoot.net, the webmaster for Hometown Favorites, LLC (www.hometownfavorites.com) has experienced an attack on their database securing information from customers of Hometown Favorites. Customer information, including credit card information, may have been compromised. Additionally, customers may receive “phishing” e-mails from this attacker, requesting additional personal information.
These are the credit card number(s) we had on file for you which could have been compromised:
Order Date Credit Card #
5/3/2006 ************XXXX
We are recommending that customers of Hometown Favorites who have purchased products by credit card take the following steps to mitigate any possible fraud using either your credit card or your personal information…[standard stuff]"
