Yikes, skinheads on my front porch

Got home from work last night and brought in the mail and a couple of fliers that had been left on my porch – a Chinese restaurant menu and a pizza ad. And, oh yeah, something that had been placed on the doormat after I’d gotten home the previous evening; I’d noticed it on my way out in the morning, but didn’t bother pick it up since my hands were full.

It was three sheets of paper, rolled into a tight scroll and fastened with a rubber band. Curious, I unrolled it.

Top sheet: “Ten Traitors Plus One.”

The traitors are, apparently, the 12 members of the Senate Judiciary Committe (yeah, I know, ten plus one isn’t twelve, but whatever), including Arlen Spector, who lives in my neighborhood. Said 12 are “guilty of treason” because of the illegal aliens bill.

Okay. I don’t agree with the sentiments, or the way they’re presented, but whatever.

Curious, I move on to the second sheet, which is headlined

I flinched. Honest to God, I flinched.

I scanned it, but, feeling ill, I can’t bring myself to read it.

Page 3: Call for a Citizens’ Strike; “We” (sic) should all stay home and refuse to participate in any economic activities on two dates, instead staying home to focus on “home, family, books etc.”

Website and PO box for National Vanguard given on each sheet.
Let me emphasize – there is no way someone just tossed this communique up from the sidewalk; he or she actually was on my front porch while I was home and left it.

I am seriously creeped out by this.

You live in a free country, don’t you? Isn’t it good that these bigots and hate-mongers are allowed to make themselves known so you can stomp them democratically?

Completely agree with this, but it’s always disappointing/infuriating to know that there are people who believe this garbage.

And to know that someone like that has actually been on your porch and might have wanted to actually tell you about it…would have creeped me out too.

Yes, Quartz, but the nasties were on her property to do it, which is not their right.

Ugh. twickster my twin, that is seriously creepy.

Eeew!

Irritating guff in your letter box?

Yes it is annoying, but fucking just chuck it in the bin and ignore it.

Pretend you are Iran.

Seems like the people who left the other flyers had to go on her property to do it too. The skinheads weren’t trespassing any more than they were.

I mean, if it makes you feel any better, if they’re the kind of people who go from door to door delivering little pamphlets, they probably weren’t skinheads and you have no reason to fear them. Violent punks aren’t the only kind of white supremacist there are, from my time on Stormfront it seems most of them are white middle-class suburbanites who happen to have some very ugly attitudes.

Last night there were skinheads on my lawn…

If they come back, you can take them bowling.

No, actually, the other fliers were elsewhere on the porch (as in, thrown over the front wall of the porch from the sidewalk) or stuck in the gate (also left from the sidewalk). The way this was tucked by my front door, it had to have been done by a human being, not thrown up (sic) and then rolled over.

I’d make a bonfire out of them and laugh evilly and toast some chestnuts, because I’ve never had chestnuts roasted over an open fire before, but that’s me.

It’s never a good idea to burn ink directly under something you’re about to eat.

That said, “skinhead” is not synonymous with “white power asshat”. Skinheads are a small minority of white supremacists and bigots, and in fact there are several types of anti-racist (some violently anti-racist) skinhead factions.

I saw a news report the other night about a woman that had been allegedly trying to get neo-nazis involved in the immigration protests here. Then they showed her face and said her name. It was the woman, who, a couple of months ago when I was looking for a used car, had attempted to sell me one that she had rolled back the odometer on. Thank God for CarFax.

Actually, you appear to be mistaken on this count. Sorry.

Some quotes:

*In the doorstep-solicitation case, by a vote of 8 to 1, the court reasoned that the First Amendment right to free speech includes the entitlement to take a message directly to someone’s door …

“People have the right not to listen or to close their doors, but the government is not supposed to be in that door closing business.”

People who do not want to listen to a political candidate or other canvasser need not do so, the court said. Residents may post a “No Solicitations” sign at the door, or simply refuse to engage in conversation.

The court also rejected the town’s claim that the law helped prevent crime. There is no evidence that a criminal casing a neighborhood would be deterred by the need to get a permit, the court said.

The court already has held that the Constitution gives people the right to anonymously distribute campaign literature. Monday’s ruling extends that right to door-to-door soliciting for other causes.

Yeah, the case was brought up because of religious proselytizing, which is a whole other set of threads that have been doen to death here, but the result trickles down to many different causes and efforts.

To the OP: throw it away. You aren’t contaminated.

That was the US Supreme Court, btw. Not a state or local court.

Hey, don’t flame the messenger!

I’m sure she’s already disposed of the flyers, but that doesn’t mitigate the ick factor. It’s never pleasant to be directly reminded of the idiocy in our communities.

beat me to it.

You don’t see the upside?

This person left the flyer while you were home, and was too scared to knock or ring the bell and actually talk to you. That says a great deal.

If they come back, I suggest you remember your faith and offer them oatmeal.
