About 11:30 I think. Yes, it does look like rain doesn’t it.
But the point remains, lack of YipYip…
And now back to the hospital that’s gone to the dogs…
Well I’ll be! I remembered the characters as being some kind of weird little aliens, but did you all recall that there was at least one other two headed critter? There was one called “Two Headed Monster”, I’m not certain if that was the one that could honk it’s noses or not. Look on this page, it lists both Yip Yip Martians, and The Two Headed Monster. (Who had a skit with Cab Calloway.) Maybe they had the same voice actor, and that is what confused me? I recall them as sounding rather close to each other.
Adding, from the image showing Cab Calloway with The Two Headed monster I saw, it was The Two Headed monster who had the horns, one set pointing up, the other pointing down. I think he is the one who was always arguing with himself, and misdirecting other hapless Muppets. The Yip Yips had antennae of differing colors. Looking closer at the picture, they were also seperate beings. Didn’t they look almost like jellyfish sometimes? I can remember some things about them so clearly, and other things are muddled up with another character. Time to find some old Sesame Street! Heh… (I loved both sets of characters, the Yip Yips, and the Two Headed Monster. I still wish both had gotten more skits.)
Didn’t the two-headed monster sound out words for kids? There’d be a C on one side of the screen, and AKE on the other, and Monster Left would say “Kuh” and Monster Right would say “Ake!” and they’d slowly say it closer together until one of them yelled “CAKE!”
Or maybe I made that up. It’s been known to happen.
I don’t recall that being on Sesame Street, but they used to do it on The Electric Company.
I may have consolidated my kids’ shows. It’s what happens when you hit 30.
I remember that being The Electric Company thing–the sillhouetted faces spitting out bits of words. The THM on Street I think youthed that concept down a bit in the absence of TEC.
Afternoons of bliss: Street, TEC, ZOOM with som Mr. Rogers thrown in for good measure…I could feel my brain folding and bulging as I watched. Or maybe that was the encephalitis…

Did you know that’s on iTunes?
That’s the one I remember!!! I still do it* when the phone rings…
*I’m 36 years old. Yes, my wife thinks I’m idiot.
You know that stupid cascading laughter in Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” … Yeah, I’m doing that now. I’m at work. My boss thinks I’m an idiot.
If anyone has a link to video of the yipyip aliens, I will love you forever.*
*In a purely platonic fasion, of course.

Wait… they’re saying yip-yip?
Damn, for the past couple decades since I first saw them I thought they were saying yep-yep-yep-yep when one of them said something correctly. Like how they say nope-nope-nope-nope…
It was everything I remembered and more. :sniff:
Thanks GIGObuster!
Ohhhhhh, now I remember…I remember how much these two used to scare the ever-loving shit outta me! I absolutely loved Sesame Street, but my God these two used to give me nightmares.
Of course, now that I watch it again, damn that was hillarious.
Beautiful.
The 2 headed monster still appears in the current episodes. There is a segment now called Journey to Ernie where Big Bird finds Ernie, who is hiding. The 2 headed monster usually appears and each head tells Big Bird that Ernie is in a different direction.
I also got my son a Sesame DVD that is an anniversary compilation and it is full of old and new songs. The aliens appear in it, they audition for a show Big Bird is putting on. I like it because it has lots of the older tunes on it too, including “I’m an Aardvark” and “The Alligator King”.
Indeed they would. Although most of the Two-Headed Monster’s vocabulary consisted of gibberish, they were able to sound out words.
As for the Martians, they appear to be still a part of the Sesame Street family. Advertisements for this year’s installment of the Sesame Street Live stage show, “Out of this World,” show a plot about diversity in which the Martians come to Sesame Street and learn about world culture. Tolerance has always been a theme on Sesame Street, and for over 35 years they have shown a world in which we can all get along, be we black, white, human, bird, monster, grouch, or Martian.
Hey, ZOOM is still on! Every once in awhile, they will do a “ZOOM Flashback” to the original seasons where they will show a clip from the really old shows. So far, I’ve seen Bernadette do her “arm thing” and a clip of Tracy, the mousy-haired girl with the rather generous olfactory prominence. I had a crush on both of them, but they were older than me back then, so it’s okay, right?
Shoot, those girls are older than me NOW, so that’s okay too…
As for the current crop of ZOOMettes, they make me wish I was 12 again, I’ll admit. Anyone got a de-oldifying machine? We can talk.
Shing Ying meeting professional chef Ming Tsai in his restaurant to make wonton soup was classic:

DE-OLDIFYING MACHINE, STAT! I’m dyin’ over here!
