YogSothoth, how'd you get so fucking stupid?

I think it was a past life. A demon told me about it.

I can’t find the thread, so I am likely misremembering. But there was a discussion in which people were talking about the M-16, and someone (I thought it was YogSothoth) stated he was taught in the Army that the M-16 was a “defensive weapon”. I remember the post because it was such amazing bullshit. I’m pretty sure the poster also mentioned being an Army medic. Now I’m curious who that poster was, if not YogSothoth.

Good god, I hope not. I remember in one thread he stated that bullets can’t ricochet off of water.

To be fair, he could have played one in one of the Call of Duty games. Me, I prefer The Legend of Zelda so I carry this broadsword around in case I need to shoot laser beams at monsters.

Better a tasteless turd than a flavorful turd, I always say.

I want to go into the “Things you’re shocked that people don’t know” thread and post that third degree burns are serious and you should seek medical treatment, but I don’t want to get a note for threadshitting.

Did I miss it or has the target of the OP walked back his “My ignorance makes me correct” argument? Hope not. After all, that ranks pretty near another poster’s classic “My post is my cite”.

Perhaps if you were to actually learn something first, that might make a difference. Try going to the Red Cross and taking a basic First Aid class. Or even go on Google and look up ‘third degree burn’. Both of those actions will tell you something:

Third degree burns are Bad Shit and you need immediate medical treatment.

Seeing Clothahump lecture someone else about making ignorant remarks is the height of irony.

Seeing Clothahump correctly lecture someone else about making ignorant remarks is a sign of the Apocalypse.

Anyway, I’m okay to give medical advice because I am a doctor.

Okay, not a real doctor, but I’ve played one on television.

Okay, maybe I haven’t done that per se, but I’ve seen people portraying doctors on televisions.

Okay, I’ve seen a few episodes of House. And if I’ve learned anything valuable about the practice of medicine from watching House…I’ll be very surprised.

Yogsothoth, didn’t you used to be called Yogsosoth? How/why did that change? Just curious.

Well yeah.

But at least in this case he brought a whole fresh new perspective to the topic, teased out nuances no one else considered, and generally provided the kind of thoughtful insight this thread had been completely devoid of.

Would read again.

Read this to yourself while looking in a mirror. You might learn something, or Bloody Mary might come. Either way, it seems like a pretty groovy option.

My favorite.

Kids should not be censored from porn. What a stupid decision

You obviously didn’t learn it’s always lupus.

I’ve seen a commercial containing many TV doctors doing doctor poses.

Dear LORD, me too.

apparently, you are less qualified than everyone else in the thread.

you might want to write more carefully. It seemed like you said “i don’t know any better, so i am right.” That’s kinda a factual claim. A dumb one, but hard to tell just how dumb you might be from that thread.

You know, the advice was wrong, but not horrible. What was horrible was your doubling down. A person of normal intelligence would have read the rest of the thread, and either not posted again, or said, “gee, I guess it could be serious, ignore my previous advice, I was wrong.”

He burning your dog.

Shodan

OK, I know it’s the pit but let’s fight some ignorance. It’s not that 3rd degree burns* sometimes don’t hurt, it’s that the definition of a 3rd degree burn is one that is deep enough to destroy nerves and so by definitio*n doesn’t hurt (although there can be some pain in surrounding areas that are less severely burned). I think that this is common knowledge-I think I learned it in Girl Scouts. In fact, when I got a severe second degree burn a couple of weeks ago, I was reassured by the fact that it hurt like hell because I knew it couldn’t be that severe. So what bothers me is the doubling down and saying that this was somehow not a typical case of a 3rd degree burn when in fact whenever somebody presents with a burn that is painless it is most likely more severe than a painful burn.

Suppose somebody said “I’m having chest pains that radiate to my left arm” and was told “Well since the pain isn’t just in your chest but also goes to your arm, it probably isn’t serious so you don’t need to see a doctor”. If multiple posters than came in to point out that chest pain radiating to the left arm is absolutely classic for a heart attack and this is a well-known fact, would it be appropriate to then insist “I was justified in telling the person not to see a doctor because it’s common knowledge that heart pain shouldn’t go to the arm, and I was unaware that this could represent a heart attack”?
