The “hustle” aspect also puzzles me.
This has been a long term, persistent problem. I’ve seen no evidence of “hustle” whatsoever.
TPTB have to can their current ad providers and go with respectable ones (by Web standards).
It is very long overdue.
The problem is that Bone is still a newbie. He doesn’t realize that the official line is to (1) pretend to care, (2) take some ineffectual steps, and (3) declare the problem solved, even though us peons say that it isn’t.
Mind you, I’m sure that some of the moderators actually do care. It’s just that they don’t have the power or authority to do anything useful.
It took me seven (!!!) attempts to read this thread.
Open the thread, get the ‘Your device is infected pop up’ which gives an ok to download whatever they are trying to infect my phone with and that is it. Back reloads the page which reloads the pop up.
So close the browser and try again. Seven times.
Look guys, this is horseshit. You have effectively made this site unusable from my mobile devices which I do 90% of my browsing from.
Then you act like standard testing is beyond your capabilities. If it is, hire someone who knows what the hell they are doing.

I get the same ad (also android phone, chrome browser), I’ve mostly had to quit using SDMB on my phone because it comes up nearly every time I open a page here. I don’t get this ad on any other site, and I do not get it on my PC when visiting SDMB.
Don’t get your hopes up. You know the Chicago Sun-Times, the SDMB’s actual owner?
Right at the top of their home page they have an ad for Digital 312, billed as “Chicago Sun-Times Digital Agency.”
The ad won’t load for me.
Their slogan is “We put wings on pigs. . .”
But they can’t make them fly.
Browsing on my android phone today and I haven’t been hijacked. Maybe a good sign?
I’ve been hitting the boards for an hour without the malware! I don’t know if you changed the ad source but so far so good. Yesterday, I would have been hit several times by now.
Earlier today i was on my kindle and got hit. I’ll try again.

My heart really goes out to people accessing the board by phone, and of course that’s more and more these days. It sounds an absolute nightmare!

I suffered an attempted malware redirect today.

We are having a helluva time tracking this down. All ads are now stopped. Assuming the problem no longer occurs (pls advise ASAP if it does), we’ll resume ads one provider at a time until the offending unit is isolated. Thanks for your patience.
