See, this highlights something else that sucks here: SD members not only can’t read what already been written in the thread they are in, but they have never, ever read another thread! (that is, except for the obviously funny ones like ‘i burning your dog’ or 1920s style death ray). They make the same joke each time they enter a Pit thread, for example, in which the OP talks about something that sucks at the SD, by doing the very thing that the OP speaks of, as if this joke had never been done in any such Pit thread before!
Actually, I think I’ve figured it out- Dopers are a strange group of individuals who are intelligent and educated, yet have short-term memory loss- so much, in fact, that they forget not only the jokes they have made in threads weeks and months and years ago, but also the OPs and subsequents posts others have made in a given thread that they are reading, so by the time they post their message, all it contains is an educated discourse that shows off their knowledge while ignoring anything anyone else has said anywhere else in the thread (except a vague concept, of course, of the topic of the thread, which they hung onto in their minds), and then they leave the thread, scurrying off to enter other threads and do the same. They have no memory of past posts they or others have made, or any memory of posts they read in a thread they enter, except a general memory of what topic they are giving a discourse on (or making a joke or comment about). That explains everything!

It’s like this: I see Andrew has started another thread bitching about people flinging shit, and I tell myself NOT to read it because it’s just another train wreck. But then we all can’t help but to look at a train wreck, so what the hell I say, and I read it.
Then shock of all shocks, he wants to be shit flung upon. So now I perceive Andrew to be something like the geek at the carnival, just standing and asking people to throw chicken bones and what-not at him.
So I scroll and read, and marvel and wonder at what posesses someone to be so incredibly fucking hostile to everyone and everything, and the glee with which his arguments and statements are tossed back in his face by people smarter, more eloquent and not nearly so neagtive as him. And when they do so, well shit my pants, don’t you know, that wasn’t the MAIN POINT of his OP, and how dare you comment on it?
So as this goes on, I think well, they’re handling it alright, you know - the mysterious “they”, who can also be “you” or “them”. And I stay out of it.
Except for this, try saying “Feeble shit flinging feeds the flinging of shit freely” ten times really fast. If you do it in the dark into a mirror, you’ll see the ghostly image of Andrew insulting you in his own special “creative” way.
