You better stop! Or I-I-I--I won't vote for Kerry!

What is with this attitude? Go into any thread where Kerry supporters dominate (which is, granted, most political threads) and there’s invariably a post from someone claiming to re-think their vote for Kerry because the posters are being poopyheads towards Republicans/Bush supporters.

What The Fuck?

This ain’t pledge week at the Tri-Delts. You don’t have to like all Democrats, or any of them, to believe that Bush is a lousy president and Kerry a better alternative.

Calling people on egregious hypocrisy is one thing. But expecting any group to exhibit signs of sainthood is ridiculous.

It’s the same thing that makes you defy your mother when you’re a kid.

“If you don’t vote for Kerry you’re an asshole with a mental deficiency!”

“Oh yeah? Well, nanny nanny boo boo, I’m voting for Bush, and when Kerry loses you’ll be sorry!”

It’s an attempt to play the vengeance card. And I’ll tell you one thing, if this place had any bearing on the election whatsoever there would be a massive backlash against Kerry because of the unmitigated arrogance of the more strident Kerry supporters.

You Americans are all alike.
Always overpolling for the wrong occasions.

What about the unmitigated arrogance of those who support neither?

Unmitigated arrogance is hardly the sole domain of the Kerry supporter. The Bush backers and the Independents and the Naderites are all just as insufferable. It’s enough that someone like Jesse Jackson would be elected just to spite EVERYONE.

Um, link?

Try this for a link. Look at reply #217 from Random. It got me kinda steamed and I replied in a not so nice way.

Fessie, I agree with you 100% on this.

Also, I don’t remember when exactly, but it seems we had an entire thread recently where the OP threated to vote for Bush because all the Kerry supporters were being yukky and mean.

Another example. It’s funny (yuk yuk) but the OP claims that underneath the “humor,” he’s serious in his claim that Bush supporters are severely mentally ill. I think that qualifies as pretty arrogant.

Actually, my previous link is more of an example of the abundance of arrogance from the right on this board. Should it be enough to scare undecideds away? No, because this board is not representative of the world, and issues are more important anyway. But is it a turn-off to those who witness examples of such arrogance? I say yes.

I never said it was. However, “But he does it too!” does not excuse the behavior, and this thread isn’t about Bush supporters. It’s about why people are truned off by some Kerry supporters.

Are you saying that if all American voters read all the pro-Kerry / anti-Bush election threads here on the SDMB they would then react by overwhelmingly voting for Bush? Isn’t that assuming that the entire country is guilty of exactly what the OP is complaining about? (I do think that many American voters would behave just so. But I, like the OPer thinks it doesn’t say much about the folks that would base their precious vote on such meaninglessness.)

Oh, and you watch. Somehow, someone will attempt to say that I am supporting Bush with my comments in this thread. Wait and see. And that’s MY biggest turnoff with rabid Kerry supporters. I have supported nobody, I’ve made an observation, no more, no less. But somehow I’ll be called a Bush backer.

Hey, you’re supporting Bush with you’re comm…uh…nevermind.
:stuck_out_tongue:

That is exactly what I’m saying. Calling people assholes or telling them even in jest (hardy har har) that they have a “mental disturbance” for not backing what they perceive as the right horse is not the way to win friends and influence people. Backlashes suck, don’t they? And all it takes to start one is to sling shit at people who might otherwise support you.

Being turned off by Kerry supporter (or anyone) is one thing. Casting your vote as some kind of childish reaction to distasteful or arrogent comments made by Kerry supporters (or by Bush supporters etc.) is quite another.

In my opinion, the latter is repugnant.

PS-- Airman Doors I am in no way accusing you of basing your vote on any such criteria or even of being a Bush supporter.

And on preview: I agree it is quite lame to suggest people have mental disease if they support Bush. I also agree that arrogant support of a candidate can turn people off. I just don’t think that any insult or arrogance directed at people should influence their choice of candidate for president in any meaningful way.

I say to this wimpy ass attitude, and I have said before: Fuck you.* Have a spine and vote your conscience. If your vote for president is made to spite an anonymous internet poster, well, I guess I don’t have words for that.

This is not directed to anyone in this thread, but to the hypothetical spewer of such nonsense.

I completely agree, Hentor. But I was really shot down for opining that same thing in the thread I linked to above.

And it doesn’t matter if you vote Red or Blue as a reaction to some arrogant posting on a message board. Either way-- if this is your criteria for casting your one and only vote, you are a fucking idiot.

Excellent point. And, I might add – if you’re still undecided about who to vote for, read up on the differences between the candidates, and decide what’s important for you and your family. I have a hard time digesting anyone being undecided in this election; it’s not like the candidates are presenting the same platforms for improving conditions in the U.S. and abroad. We’re clearly at a crucial crossroads, and everyone needs to take this election - and their right to cast a vote - in a serious manner, IMHO.

So, I shouldn’t wear my clown suit to the polls?
