"You Can Count On Me"

I recently saw “You Can Count On Me” with Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo. I thought it was OK, but nothing too special. I’ve been wondering why there has been so much talk of its magnificence, when something hit me.

I’m an only child. “YCCOM” is the story of two adult siblings. I’m wondering if my inability to really appreciate it is based on the fact that I’ve never had a sibling relationship and, as such, the whole experience is too alien to me to really grasp.

Are there other only children out there who’ve seen this film and can either explain what I’m missing or sound a note of agreement? Are there people out there with siblings who can help me? Please, let me know.

(Bonus points if anyone can tell me what was so fabulous about “Dancer In The Dark”.)

I just saw it and loved it. I have 2 sisters, so maybe that is part of what I liked about it. It really does capture the whole sibling love/exasperation thing very well.

My favorite scene, though, was the one where she was driving back home and alternately covering her face in embarassment and laughing triumphantly. To me, that was an absolute gem of a scene. I have had that reaction many times, but have never seen that shown on film. The movie had lots of quiet moments like that.
