What I want to know is why “It’s Raining Men” isn’t on the list.
Ah well, that refers to what bin Laden gets up to on his weekends off…
What I want to know is why “It’s Raining Men” isn’t on the list.
How about “Christmas at Ground Zero”?
With regard to refraining from playing versus banning, I think that most of the hubub is a combination of people thinking that this list implies banning, and the generally silly nature of some of these songs (especially Bridge Over Troubled Water).
As far as the Independence Day thing goes, I think that if people thought that the movie was going to be banned from network play (as they did about these songs) that there would be a similar uprising. I don’t know what the URLs are, but there have been at least 2 threads basically devoted to people talking about the Simpsons New York episode. In those threads, many people have said that they think the episode should never be shown again without editing, and I for one have voiced my disapproval with this idea.
That’s my 2 cents…
Tenebras
Blowin in the Wind? Um, I can’t think of a more appropirate time for that song.
And what’s the deal with Rage? Are they just too anti-establishment for wartime? Sheesh.
Personally, I NEED to listen to upbeat songs. Yes, thousands of people dying is horrid. Yes, the prospect of thousands more dying in a full-fledged military attack is also not so cheerful. But the fact of the matter is that my life DOES go on, Ra. I was damned lucky not to lose anyone in the WTC, and I am greatful for that. I need to listen to happy songs like “Wonderful World” to remind me that there is goodness and happiness in the world to balence out the pain and suffering. If I had just lost someone, I know from personal experiance that I wouldn’t want to hear “Obladee, obladaa.” But the majority of people in the country DIDN’T loose anyone. Therefore, I’d think we could all use a collective cheering up.
Though upon hearing a story on NPR about a woman who hadn’t seen her family in two years because she as afraid to fly, and whose plane ended up in one of the WTC, my first thought was “Damn. Ironic can now honestly be considered ironic.”

She’s got a ticket to ride…on the airplane that’s going to crash into the World Trade Center?
