You do it... EVEN when you know better

[Cheryl Crow]Nothing like a good beer buz early in the morning[/CC]

Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese - put fries on the burger. Extra ketchup.

I don’t need this.

But sometimes, just sometimes it makes all that is wrong with the world fall into insignificance.

I keep eating the donuts in the dining hall even though they’re gross and I don’t even like eating sugar in the morning.

Hmm…this is really interesting and certainly never occurred to me. I just read your post to my wife, and she agreed that this is a possibility worth looking into.

Thanks very much for the post! Good Lord, I love this board. “Straight Dope: fighting ignorance even when you aren’t looking!”

I have a SIL that is alergic to anything with corn in it.

Corn syrup or some veriation is in just about everthing. You may want to check that out as well.

Procrastination.

If “Blinded by the Light” comes on the radio, I have to sing “wrapped up like a douche another rumour in the night,” even though I’ve known for years now that it’s wrong.

I eat a banana from time to time, in spite of having developed an allergy to them at some point.

Then I feel stupid.

This may be a latex allergy, and in that case watch out for mangos, pineapple (I think), and uh, latex.

How the hell did they not realize in the mixing & editing that everyone in the world would hear “douche” in that line?

However, it’s always been “runner” to me.

Me, too. I blame my dad. he told me those were the lyrics.

The thing I do even though I know better? Cheer for the Broncos. Today my husband–who is not a big football fan–asked me why I don’t just switch my allegiance to the Patriots or the Colts–“You know, a good team.”

Because I enjoy the pain, I guess.

Oh, and I too eat dairy even though I’m LI. Though I’m going to look into this whey thing, because that makes a lot of sense.

So did I. My wife (not at the time) corrected me after we had known each other about a month. Now every time that song comes on we sing “GIMME THE BEACH BOYS…” as loudly as we can.

I enjoy pagophagia*. To the tune of eating three or four trays of ice with my beverages daily. I know that it’s not good for my teeth, but there’s just something so satisfying about crunching my ice. Even the shivers if I have too much ice are mostly enjoyable. Drinks just taste better with crunchies!

*I’ve had blood work done many times over the past several decades, and never any sign of anemia, so that’s not what’s going on.

I’m not a football fan. I used to follow the Pats, though, back in the day. And I have to ask, are the Patriots really a good team, now? That’s just wrong, dammit… It’s almost as bad as it would be if the Celtics were nobodies in the NBA.

Wow, I’m surprised that no one’s mentioned this one yet: Smoke. Habitually, I mean.

And I want to second **Asimovian’s ** “good looking out” to **Litoris ** re they whey/lactose post.

Oh, yeah, and **matt_mcl’s ** procrastination (even though I understand that the emotional/mental drivers behind it aren’t my “fault,” I HATE when I do it), and *Hilarity N. Suze’s ** reading the SDMB when other things need to get done. I’m definitely getting better at dealing with these issues, but Rome wasn’t built in a day, and all that.
*Not life-and-death-and-bill-paying things, but still…

Can we list stuff we don’t do? I never floss. Every time I visit the dentist they all ream me for not flossing, and I say this year’s the year I’m gonna finally start doing it. It never happens though. Someday it’s going to come back and bite me, and I’ll regret it, but for now, I just can’t bring myself to do it.

Yes, they’re 5-0 for the season. They have several Super Bowl rings. The NFL commentators and talking head metaphorically suck Tom Brady’s cock every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Monday night, (now whenever we mention the Pats in our house, we add the obligatory “Tom Brady, he’s soooo dreamy sigh”) and they’re heavily favored to go to the Super Bowl again this year.

Drinking caffeine, specifically coffee. Whenever I have coffee, there’s about an 80% chance that I’ll get a horrible headache within an hour that lasts for hours and hours regardless of any medicine I might take. This is usually accompanied by a sick feeling in my stomach. Starngely, it only tends to happen with coffee, and not with equally caffeinated things like tea.

And yet I’ll still drink it every so often because it just smells and tastes so good.

Oh geez, I could have written this. Coffee usually, but not always has a really unpleasant affect on me. I get really hyper and jittery and it’s not good. At one point I went without drinking it for three years, but sometimes I just really want a cafe au lait.

Fortunately, I really do prefer tea to coffee in general, and tea doesn’t have this effect on me.

Also, flossing, eating chocolate, not eating proper meals even though I KNOW I feel much better and healthier when I eat more fruits and veggies, and probably a hundred more things.

Drinking a liter glass of beer seemed like a good idea at the time.

I do the exact same thing with movie theater popcorn, but for me it’s roughly an annual mistake.
