You get one free luxury item for life! What would it be?

Hm. Premium Health Care would be awesome, but my current work benefits are pretty good and it’s likely that I’ll continue to work places where the insurance is decent.

I think I’d get a maid. I don’t mind gardening, minor home repairs, or cooking, but I’m not big on cleaning. The thing is, we could probably afford to have someone come in and clean now, I’m just a cheapskate.

Add to this a large library, with glassed in bookshelves, and you have my dream.

And the kitchen must have lots and lots of counter space. It’s the main thing lacking in most home kitchens.

This will end in nothing but hilarity and a valuable life lesson at the end of it all. Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you. Didn’t you ever see Multiplicity? Also, do you look anything like Andie MacDowell? If so, how you doin?

I also want a house, and although I’m in awe of Airman Doors’ new home, I’m thinking I’ll take a sprawling one-story (with the woiks) somewhere in West Texas with a lot of land to explore.

First class travel. I’m not so greedy as to insist that I need my own plane - a pair of seats on any airline going anywhere I might desire to travel at any time would allow me to see the world - in comfort. And it would annoy the hell out of those snobby bastards who normally occupy first (to judge by the one time I was upgraded).

How about a subscription to a really good wine-of-the-month club? Or your own personal vineyard and winery.

But she has a pool, right there…

I think I will steal my idea from Athena and get a large mountainside estate in Northern California. It must include a house with a beautiful view and top-of-the-line kitchen, a small vineyard for personal winemaking, a large garden, a small barn, an orchard planted with fruit and nut trees, and several wooded acres area for hiking, hunting, and lumber production.

Guess I’ll have to go with my username.

Motorhome.

Those are sweet. And I love road trips. Prefer them immensely to flying.

I know, I’m not even 40 yet and I want a motorhome, isn’t that what old folks do?

My first thought was a really nice car, (I used to have a Cadillac, leather interior, power everything, quiet, nice handling etc) but my final answer is a maid/housekeeper, one that does laundry. Short of that, a laundry room on the second floor where most of the laundry comes from would be nice too. I hate carrying the baskets down two flights of stairs , through the living room, dining room, kitchen, to the creepy spidery cold basement, then back up again. Oh well, at least I’m not pounding my clothes on rocks down by the river. :stuck_out_tongue:

Or a dumbwaiter arrangement to lower/raise the laundry without all the carrying. That would be pretty swank  Screw it, make it an elevator so I can also skip the stairs lol.

It’d have to be a REALLY good wine-of-the-month club. Part of the reason you have your own cellar is so you can put aside wine for a while, and suddenly that case of wine you bought for a song 20 years ago has turned into something mysterious and wonderful. So yeah, if the wine-of-the-month club brings me 20-30 bottles a month, and it’s exquisite quality, hard-to-find wines, and manages to get them to me without them being exposed to crappy temperatures, sure! But it seems to me that a cellar would be easier.

Hmm… but the club would imply that someone other than me is picking it out. I wanna pick out my own wines. That’s half the fun.

Personal vineyard and winery? Tempting. That’s more of a lifestyle thing, though, involving a lot of work. If I started doing it and it turned out that I liked it, great! But I’d worry that I really liked drinking and trying new wines, not making my own. And I wouldn’t want to be one of those absentee owners who just relies on my minions to do all the work, that’s not how I’m wired.

I’d take this boat.

I’ll have what Winston Smith is having.

I’d like a private strike force

A nice sized house with some amenities: master suite w/walk-in closet, three car garage (so we can park his car, my car and have room for bikes, lawnmower, etc.), home office, three additional bedrooms (I want each of my future kids to have their own room).

But, for the sake of domestic tranquility (the hubs is a chef), we must have a HUGE kitchen with double oven, six burner gas range, full size fridge and full size freezer, and a lot of storage for all of his kitchen gadgets, multitude of pots and pans, etc., and a formal dining room to enjoy all of his masterful creations. Honestly, the kitchen/dining room would probably be, like, a third of the entire house in our dream house.
