You know what the Facebook experience is like? (Yeah, another anti-Facebook post.)

I don’t bother keeping up with anyone. They keep up with me, because I am entertainment personified.

So what?

Seriously, so what? Apart from the issue that inspired this thread, that doesn’t sound like fun to me. So why should I or anyone else care about this enough to keep me from doing what I want to do with Facebook?

I’ve had tons of fun on FB, and thanks to various games I play there, I’ve got 100’s of “friends.” Yeah, lots of idiots out there sharing stupid stuff, but I like knowing what people are thinking. It’s easy enough to unfollow someone or just unfriend them if it’s too much. Or, fact check them and they unfriend you. I’ve got lots of people there from other countries, and they do frequently update what’s going on with their lives. I think Americans are the worst at spamming the feed with political garbage, but occasionally people in other counties will post about something important to them going on in their country and it’s interesting learning about it.

I don’t understand people who say, “I’ve had it! I’m quitting Facebook!” Why? Just take more control over what you’re seeing. Or take a break. No one’s forcing you to be on there.

You are in control of your friends list. There isn’t any luck involved.

I signed back into Facebook after years of absence last year, only to find a sort-of drivel-fuelled civil war raging over Brexit. Since then, some South Korean hackers have caused my account to lock up, and Facebook want me to upload a scan of official photo ID to reopen it.

Seems a very bad idea to upload a copy of my passport just to keep up with memes and propaganda - has anyone else done this?

What totally amazes me in this thread is reading :

only 133 friends

with 133 friends, I’m selective.
I would think that say, 30, is a lot.

Well, I’m connected with a fellow SDMB member who has the maximum-allowed 5,000 friends. So, 133 is paltry.

ETA: Since posting this (OP here) I’ve un-followed certain groups, but not people.

You’re doing it wrong.

Thing is, you gotta do it it for how YOU like.

I have about twenty friends. Most are family that I hang with, and want to keep up with. A handful of close friends. And a couple of outliers.

And life ain’t bad! In fact, it’s downright enjoyable!

(Plus there’s an ‘I don’t want to see this’, button right there I think!)

I have 35 Facebook friends, and given how I like to use Facebook I should probably get rid of a few. I can’t see the point in having massive numbers of FB friends.
