You Know Who I Love? Ian McKellan!

Oh yeah. And, as a friend of mine points out, the men’s room bit is rather apt given how Richard treats people in general…

Brilliant movie. (And I do like the play – this movie, along with a really cool modern-dress Richard II I saw in Chicago a while ago, is the main thing that led me to soften my originally-purist stance on modernizing the histories.) The really amazing part is you can watch it and not give a second thought to the fact that this is the same man who played such a warm, humane Gandalf in Lord of the Rings – and then, when you watch LotR, you forget about his chilling Richard III…

And I wish to second SwimmingRiddles’ recommendation of the Macbeth video starring Judi Dench, which incidentally is now available legitimately. I don’t have enough superlatives.

Oh, and yeah, I have a terrible platonic crush on Sir Ian, too – it’s kinda hard to have the other kind, at least for me, when the object of said crush is both not my orientation and almost old enough to be my grandfather. One or the other of things, sure, but both… In any case, though, he rocks my world, verily.

Shrug I missed all that too. Didn’t know he was gay till well after X-men.

I just caught that SNL ep again. When he plants the kiss on Jimmy Fallon I completely lose it. He’s got a wonderful sense of humor.
