"You last visited ..."

No I didn’t.

The board is saying that I was last on the SDMB yesterday evening when I wasn’t even home from work. This annoys me only because a lot of threads are now appearing as ‘read’ and it follows that the ‘go to last unread post’ button doesn’t work.

Similarly, I’ve noticed recently that I might visit (I never log out) at, say, 10:00 am and the board says my last visit was at 9:55, which has the effect of making the entire board ‘read’.

Is this a recent glitch? What can I do to stop it happening? If anything. :frowning:

This used to happen to me a lot. I change my settings on chrome to not try and pre-fetch pages based on what it thinks I’m going to do…and I haven’t had a problem with it since.

YMMV.

Looking at the timestamp at the bottom of the page the server appears to be on correct time.

It’s displaying to me as Eastern time but I’m part of the Eastern time zone cabal so that’s all right with me.

Not sure what’s going on with you and I don’t know why this would be different for you.

It is entirely possible jabiru’s situation is the same as yours. Please try that; if you get better results please share with the rest of the class. Thanks.

A board setting determines the amount of time since you were last active.

Once you have accessed the forum then lie dormant for that period of time (even just reading a thread that exceeds the time) then you will be deemed to have read all posts and so new ones posted within that time frame will not show as new.

I suppose the admins could tell us what the idle time setting is on the board.
Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Cookies and HTTP Header Options -> Session Timeout

Depends on the board version as well.

“This is the time in seconds that a user must remain inactive before their login session expires. This setting also controls how long a user will remain on Who’s Online after their last activity.”

Says “1800”

In my case, I used to get up in the morning and do a little web surfing…then after an hour or so, I’d log into the Dope. My last visited sometimes would be when I powered my machine up.

I also had times it would say my last visited was when I was asleep, or away from the house. Since it doesn’t happen anyway, I suspect it was Chrome randomly waking up and checking in.

Yeah, I get that and I think the ‘idle’ time has been increased but I don’t think it’s ever been as short as five minutes.
