Wow, I’m surprised to see that mentioned here. Is there something in particular that turned you off about it? I thought it upheld the quality of the original very well.
As for my contribution, after seeing the sequel to Caddyshack, it was very, very difficult to resist the urge to stab myself in both eyes.
To get back to books, Harry Harrison’s Bill the Galactic Hero, but every sequel I’ve managed to force myself to finish has been god-awful. It’s possible the quality picked up after book four, but I doubt it, and I’m not prepared to waste the time finding out.
Oddly enough, that’s exactly what Russell Mulcahy did on premiere night after seeing what the studio had done to his movie. The Renegade Cut is supposedly much better, taking out all the alien shit and adding in some plot.
I’ll be the 4th, 5th and 6th person to add Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Reloaded. Torturing convicting mass murderers with that movie would be considered inhumane.
T3 was, as a standalone movie, pretty good. However, when compared to T2 it just doesn’t hold up at all well.
Rambo II and III sucked great blue whale semen compared to First Blood
Scream 3 - Ugh!
Beverly Hills Cop III - A sentiment considerably less complimentary than Ugh!
Star Wars I/II - A sentiment so much less complimentary than Ugh! it hasn’t even been invented yet
Back To The Future II - Awful, incomprehensible movie. I have the trilogy and the 2nd one is used to protect my coasters from potential I’ve-drunk-too-much-and-just-tried-to-pour-a-beer damage.
It did. It just became too much. Too much death. Too much violence. The second book carried through with the story, with the same implacably grim tone. I just found that I couldn’t keep going.
Well, okay, maybe not all of them. Star Trek: The Motion Picture had a pretty good sequel. But for the most part, sequels tend to be a pale shadow of the original.
The list of disappointing sequels is so long, it would be easier to whip together a list of sequels that weren’t disappointing.
