You May Bet On an Historical Event. What do you choose?

Inspired by Skald’s recent thread involving time traveling and stealing artifacts it is, no matter which way you slice it. I thought of a new question:
If you could travel back in time for one historical event in which betting would be involved ( sports, presidential elections, who wins an oscar…) what event would you pick.

You can only use that time period’s money. So, you have to steal or borrow the local currency since your debit card or pocket full of quarters is hardly going to be accepted by the bookie.

Semi-Recent Sporting Event

I think I would pick The Miracle On Icein 1980. I could use my currency today ( most of it would blend in with what was available and I wouldn’t have any language difficulties.)

Think I’ll be tempted to bet on Buster Douglas over Mike Tyson by KO.

Appalachian State over Michigan in 2007 probably had pretty good odds.

And I’ll do the obvious: Bet the farm on Obama to win the Presidency in 2008. Prolly coulda got good odds after his speech at the 2004 Dem Convention…

No problem. I go back 11 years and place a mammoth preseason bet on the Florida Marlins to win the World Series. My debit card will work just fine!

Had the Rays won the World Series this year, they’d be an easy choice at 150-1 at the beginning of the season.

October 7, 1956. Don Larsen, despite being hammered by the Brooklyn Dodgers in his previous appearance, is slated to start tomorrow’s game. How much you wanna bet he throws a no-hitter?
