Great movie. I like the little talking caterpillar. Did he have a name? I don’t remember - it’s been awhile.
Hooray for David Bowie in tight pants!

I picked up the DVD, the special features on it are excellent, with a great “making of” documentary. It gave me a whole new fresh respect for the genius of the movie. I had also never seen it widescreen before, there is so much that gets lost in the scrape 'n tape version
Man, when I was 10 I knew that Sarah made the wrong decision. I had a (very brief) crush on David Bowie based solely on that movie.
And I knew that she was a dingbat, anyway. And whiney.
Here’s one thing not to like. On the Labyrinth soundtrack, they didn’t dub in the goblin voices on that track, so the “Slime and snails / And puppy dog tails / Thunder and lightning” part sounds lame.
But then again, listening to the soundtrack means that there’s no crotch bulge, either . . . So why the hell am I listening to the soundtrack?
p.s. “Chilly Down,” “As the World Falls Down,” and “Within You” are also works of consumate genius.
AWW I loved that little caterpillar-- “Come on in and meet the missus”.
AHHH My heart sings at seeing a Labyrinth thread. I absolutely love that movie, one of my favorites. It’s not easy to show to friends though when you’re older, I think it’s the kind of movie you had to have gotten sucked into when you were little.
Also, when I try to show it to other people, I end up doing a lot of the dialog along with the movie and they get irritated.
Anyone else love the helping hands? And want to smack Sarah for choosing down?
Hands:
Which way do you want to go?
Yes, which way?
Sarah:
Huh?
Hands:
Up or down?
Cmon, cmon, we haven’t got all day!
Sarah:
Well, I’m already headed this way, so I guess down.
Hands:
She chose down!
She chose down? Hahahahahah
Sarah:
Was that wrong?
Hands:
Too late now!
(obsess much?)

Carry on
I loved this movie, read both books (children’s and novel) and head the soundtrack and copy on Video.
MMMMMmmMMMM Jareth
Oh yeah, I love Labyrinth. I bought the DVD the minute I saw it. mmmmmmm.
Another Labyrinth fan here. I’ve got the soundtrack downloaded on my computer, and burned onto at least on CD
I also like the song with those crazy headless guys. I forget what they’re called…but its a great song and the scene is hilarious. “You don’t wanna lose your head!”
And I love Bowie’s line, Nothing tra la la. Would make a great sig.
And don’t forget that the choreographer was Gates McFadden-Dr. Crusher! (I love the documentary, especially hearing Jim Henson talking and suddenly thinking “Hey, that’s Kermit!”)
Ditto on the favorite movie of all time theme… I also have the soundtrack that I love for long car rides.
I was obssessed with this movie for the longest time after it came out. And pissed at Sarah for breaking Jareth’s heart. I’d have stayed in a heartbeat. I have a bad habit of reciting the lines and singing the lyrics when I watch the movie, so according to my husband, I’m not allowed to watch it when he’s around.
I’ve owned two copied on VHS, (both of which I’ve worn out over the years), and just bought the DVD earlier this year.
“You have no power over me.” Gives me goosebumps every time.
Nah, he’s just a worm
“'allo!”
“Did you say ‘hello’?”
“Nah, I said 'allo.”
Trigonal Planar- The Fireyes
They are so cool!
Poysyn—I was about to say the same thing! Ha!
I bought Laby on DVD a couple years ago with some birthday money, along with The Dark Crystal.
Is it just me, or does the statue/fountain in the Goblin City look like a series of peeing Hoggles to anyone else?
I also love the teeny goblin soldiers who attack LuDo with the fetuses-on-sticks. Ay! Somebody bit my sushi! LOL
And what about the tile-turner who proclaims Sarah’s mother to be an aardvark? Cracks me up every time.
IDBB
I just found out the other day that my aunt once kissed David Bowie. I’m not sure I can watch the movie the same way now.
I rediscovered it a few years ago. I had tried to watch it when I was much younger, but the first shot of the goblins scared the hell out of me and I left the room.
I don’t understand why Sarah didn’t just stay with Jareth. I mean, she hates her family, Jareth obviously is going to take good care of this baby he’s worked so hard to get, and he wants her as well.
If I ever find a guy who can do that crystal-ball-rolling-over-the-hands trick, I think I’ll marry him. (Yeah, I know those weren’t Bowie’s real hands, but still.)
Mmm, yeah, David! Smack that riding crop!
Ya, that was the one large flaw I thought the movie had. It made no sense for her to return. She should’ve just stayed there. I would’ve.
Oh, and the crystal ball rolling trick is the coolest thing ever.
And what was the name of the British explorer dude?? He was 2nd favourite character.
Before anybody gets carried away and violates SDMB rules, let me remind you-
You can only throw your own head.
We named our son Jareth. It was interesting explaining to family just where we got that name (and why we named him after the Goblin King.)
At the North Carolina Renaissance Faire I met a man who could do full contact juggling (I think that’s what it is called.) It is incredible. Jim Henson called it the nearest thing to magic in this world.
OK, I think you’re officially the Biggest Labyrinth Fan on the Straight Dope Message Board, or TBLFOTSDMB, for short.
It’s been a while since I saw the film. Is this where Jareth rolls a glass ball over his fingers?
