One of my favorite things to do watching this movie is look for the Jareth statuary around the maze, but somehow I’ve missed the Hoggle statue entirely! Must remember to keep an eye out for it next time… and expect I will get out the DVD later this morning.
I always liked the other counter-to-fairytale-expectations thing Hoggle is doing when Sarah meets him: he’s pest-spraying fairies. And the fairies are vicious little creatures:
Sarah gently cradles the lovely, ethereal fairy Hoggle has just sprayed, then drops it suddenly: Ow! It bit me!
Hoggle: What’d you expect?
Sarah: I thought fairies did nice things, like granting wishes.
Hoggle: Shows what you know, don’t it?
I watched it a couple days ago because of this thread and what really struck me is how well most of the effects and stuff has held up. The goblins still look good. There’s some pretty obvious blue (black, actually, according to the making of) screening in places, but still, it looks pretty darn good.
Speaking of “Harry Potter”…does anyone notice how Sarah kept calling Hoggle “Hogwarts” when she first met him? I wonder if JK Rowling ever saw the film. Hmmm…
I dunno,]RC…it’s possible.
