I really hate to be a killjoy, but in this day and age, I don’t find this one bit funny. This would be a joke if it were fiction. It’s a tragedy in the real world.
Moto, why do you call this some form of slavery? Admittedly, sixteen is somewhat young, but apparently this woman voluntarily “auditioned” to be picked as a bride. She’s marrying the King, so I doubt she’ll be working in the fields anytime soon or turning four dollar tricks.

I know my original posting was half humorous/half serious but this is a depressing story. Yes, I suppose these women (girls actually) are making their choice ‘voluntarily’. (As I once heard in a movie “Yeah hunger is a great aphrodisiac.”) This king is such a sleazeball. What did the article say ? 40% of the adult population of that country has AIDS? I’ll bet for damned sure that when “his lowness” decides to choose his next ‘willing’ bride, she’ll probably get tested for every possible disease before she moves into that harem.
It’s amazing how some countries have been ruled by sleazeballs that didn’t give a rat’s ass about the people. (Ceausescu of Romania; Saddam Hussein, etc)
