Donald Trump interrupts the USA. I wonder if they are going to stagger it some how? It’ll be interesting to look at accident statistics for that day…
I have tried to turn all of those alerts off on my phone. I don’t get a lot of alerts but I do get some. I was driving a few weeks ago and my phone went off, quite loudly, while I was driving. It scared the hell out of me, just to tell me that there was a storm in the area.
For all the talk from the Feds about not using your phone when you drive, when it goes off like mine did I had to look and see what was wrong. These alerts are an ok idea, but, maybe they should be turned off if someone is moving at more then a few miles an hour.
And no, my phone does not just make it sound like a text, it beeps, quite loudly, for a few seconds at least, much like the EMS on the TV does. Even with the sound down/off like my phone almost always is.
Putting it this way makes me wonder if Kelly or Mattis came up with this to keep Donald happy in the midst of all the bad news about Manafort and Michael Cohen talking to Mueller, and the one potential SCOTUS nominee who’d promised to let Trump get away with anything, having a struggle to be confirmed, and Mueller pursuing Don, Jr. and Ivanka and Jared, and all the rest of the stuff making Donald cranky and unhappy.
Maybe they said ‘we’ll let him have this—the knowledge that he can interrupt EVERY SINGLE PERSON [who has a cell phone] in the USA and everyone will have to stop and acknowledge how important Donald Trump is, and how special he is. And the anticipation of doing this will keep him from asking again why he can’t set off the nuclear missiles….’
…it could have gone down that way…
Date has now been changed: “A majority of cell phone users will receive an alert on Wednesday, October 3, with the header “Presidential Alert” and the message, “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” The alert was initially scheduled to occur Thursday, September 20, but FEMA spokesman Mark Peterson tells CNN the test has been postponed, and October 3 was the alternate date for the test.” ‘Presidential alert’: Trump text slides to October 3 | wqad.com
No idea of the time but I am guessing the same 2:18 pm as the 20th had planned.
It *would *have been a bit awkward to show off a “Presidential Alert” system on the anniversary of Hurricane Maria crushing St. Croix and Puerto Rico…
My guess is it was probably mentioned as part of a Presidential briefing on Hurricane Florence. And Trump found it a bright shiny object in the midst of a bunch of boring talk about how some bad weather was going to happen to some poor people.
I’m still trying to underatnsd what kind of imminent event could possibly occur that:
-
Would affect the entire United States, and
-
Is time sensitive enough that knowing about it now gives people a chance to do something that finding out about it a few hours later or not at all, you being dead and all,
makes a difference. I can see that people might want to call their family, but really – good luck getting through. I can see where religious types want to say a last Act of Contrition or something, but is that worth the horrific panic that the text would cause?
I suspect the Russian hackers are already working on how to access the system. A good, well-timed panic could be very useful to them.
All it is is a way for trump to get his name out there and brag about what a great system HE created.
Trump was president in 2006?
That’s just my point. He’s going to SAY he created it.
And his followers (we’re supposed to stand up to bullies, not follow them) will believe it.
It’s worse for Trump. Trump’s least favorite President is behind it. This part of the system was added by legislation in 2015. Obama signed it into law.
In order to disprove Stormy Daniel’s description, I expect the first presidential dick pic to be sent out with this system. It of course won’t be his but he’ll claim it is.
The alert system is text-only and has nothing to do with Trump aside from the word “Presidential” being in the name. He doesn’t control it, he doesn’t write it, and he doesn’t send it.
In Trumpworld winning is everything and facts are for suckers. If there are no true facts to back up what you want to say, make them up.
The alert expires after 30 minutes. If you leave your phone off for that long, you won’t get it when you turn it back on. That’s how it’s supposed to work anyway.
Are you forgetting ASCII so quickly???
LMAO!
And we are talking about someone who already asked why he couldn’t launch nukes “according to sources”.
