I have to share this wonderful moment I experienced this morning.
I’m driving along the east coast of Vancouver Island like I do almost every morning on the way to my shop. There are many stretches along the 5 miles of banked waterfront I drive with Douglas firs adjacent to the beaches. Immediately upon turning onto the coast road I noticed a young eagle with motionless wings gently docking onto an upper tree limb with the precision and timing of a shuttle/satelite docking.
As I continued driving I noticed bald eagles, young and old everywhere coming out of the woodwork in the air motionless and gently hovering towards limbs of trees on the shore bank .
Its not like I see eagles every day. Often you see them just perched on the trees. But something very special was happening here indicating a very social moment. I can only surmise that the word went out to the eagle population that this morning was a good day to learn how to use the updraft of a particular on shore wind coming off the bank to land on a tree without any effort.

So adorable!
