Young Frankenstein - Why a zipper?

We all know the real answer: Because Mel Brooks thought a zipper on the Monster’s neck would be funny.

But the question being asked here is: Why would Dr. Fredrick Frankenstein design a monster with a zipper on his neck?

Upgrades?

It truly IS an enormous schwanstucker.

Ease of access when you start installing optional equipment.

That’s kinda what I was thinking, but what sort of equipment could you install in a neck?

A zipper on the back or the abdomen, I could understand, but the neck?

The monster requires a lot of food. The zipper saves time.
