Yeah, I definitely feel bad for Larry, but I think what he did wasn’t cool. And above all, I really think that adults who witnessed this behavior (both the bullying and the sexual harassment) and did nothing really failed these kids. The article did talk about adults being in Larry’s life–there was that one teacher who gave him the green evening gown. Surely she must have known some of what was going down?
And I want to make it really clear that in no way do I think that we should blame the victim for what happened, and that what Larry did was nowhere near as bad as what was done to him. Just that inappropriate behavior seemed really rife on both sides.
