 I downloaded and started Crash (1996). It now ranks among the relatively few movies I’ve started but not bothered to finish.
Casablanca features excellent witty dialog, fast-moving (though very simple) plot, and sentimentality. Good dialog is what I like best about movies; I’m also a sucker for some sentimental stories; Casablanca is #1 in both those categories, and is thus definitely my favorite movie. (I like a few of the old b/w film noirs but am less impressed with many old “classics”.) I envy anyone about to watch Casablanca for the first time. (Unfortunately I’ve watched it a dozen times or so and can only enjoy it now once or twice per decade.)
I wonder how some people manage to avoid Casablanca. My mother was a teenager when it first came out, but hadn’t seen it even once by her late 70’s. :smack: Although a movie lover, she refused to watch it until I insisted (admitting it was very good by the end).
