Your experiences with "kitty calming" products

My gigantic orange kitteh has an appointment with the groomer on Wednesday. Getting him into the carrier is bad enough, because he is, well, gigantic. And then there’s the grooming itself. I’d like to make this whole ordeal easier for both him and me, so I’m looking at calming products.

There’s a PetCo pretty close to me, and here’s a few products they have:

Chews

Drops

Spray

The spray doesn’t seem very practical. The groomer is less than 10 minutes from the house, so he won’t be in the carrier very long.

Does anyone have experiences with any of these products or others?

Bump.

Anyone?

Who’d want a calm kitten?

The phermonone spray, I assume is like Feliway. my experience is that it doesn’t calm cats “in the moment” it calms them in a general way. Like soothing music at the dentist, not like a Xanax.

The drops contain trypophan, no idea if it affects cats…

If the cat needs sedation you can speak to your vet about Acepromazine ("ace’). My cat Smokey screamed like a maniac whenever he was in the car, but once we got where we were going he was fine.

I’ve got a diffuser for the house which has helped a little bit, but the packaging says it can take up to three months for full effect. We’re only in month one.

Feliway seems to work, but hardly overnight, and just tones things down a couple of notches.
