Your fanciest hotel room?

Two possibilities:

An over-water villa on Kurimathi Island in the Maldives for about $200/nt in 2004.

A mini-suite at Raffles in Beijing for $130 in 2009 (special price since we were originally booked at a different hotel that was construction delayed and they moved us to Raffles).

Grosvenor House in London over New Year’s Eve 2014-2015.

Corporate bonus and I took my two girls. The room wasn’t clean when we got there so they upgraded up to a suite for the week.

They even threw in three personal cheesecakes each night to apologize. Good service, good location, good suite. I’d never have paid the $700/night on my own.

Whenever I stay at a world-class hotel, I make it a point to bring along two girls.

I’m not much for fancy accommodations but a couple of notable places are the Commonwealth in Boston, not so much fancy as high end service, and the Luxor Copacabana in Rio where we got a huge room. US dollars were worth something in Brazil back then and we were getting constant VIP treatment. I’ve stayed at a few different Double Trees and they were always top notch also.

The best resort was the Four Seasons Maui on a trip that I was awarded by my employer. All the amenities you can imagine. They even rake the beach twice a day ('cause who would want to step in someone else’s footprints?).

As a result of business travel in the past I have stayed as some very nice hotels, including a suite at the Studio City Hyatt in Los Angeles. 3 rooms, complementary Perrier and Godiva chocolates, etc. The absolute best room though, was a one bedroom Tower Suiteroom at the Mirage in Vegas. 1,200 square feet of absolute luxury with a view of the Vegas strip. We got a suite (sweet) upgrade because my wife and I were there on a slow weekend. Pretty amazing.
