There’s something weirdly euphemistic about “Heritage Flakes.” It sounds like it used to be called something offensive and they decided to change the name. Like the Freedom Fries of the cereal world.
I used to really like full size shredded wheat (and the mini wheats, as well), but as a diabetic, they’re just too too high in carbs.
When they changed Quake to the Australian guy and the kangaroo? Yeah, I do remember eating those once, didn’t like them, too orangey*!* Although I did like Jean LaFoote’s Cinnamon Crunch, even though I’ve since heard it described as having tasted like Lavoris mouthwash…
Shredded Wheat w/ honey. I haven’t seen it around here in a while, however.
Harvest Crunch w/ raisins currently.
My favorite cereal is Quaker Oat Squares. Unfortunately they are about $4 for a small box so I don’t buy them unless they are on sale. My daily cereals are store brand cheerios, bran flakes, etc. Cheap boring stuff.
This.
Don’t eat cereal these days, except at Hotel ‘free’ breakfast bars, where it is usually Cheerios or Rice Krispies, with Frosted Flakes if neither are avaialble.
Back then, it was Cap’n Crunch. Straight out of the box.
Now it’s oat groats. Toasted then soaked overnight and pressure cooked for 20 minutes, served with cinnamon and maple syrup.
Peanut Butter Captain Crunch. I keep at least five boxes on hand at all times.
I love that this was the cereal that inspired the worst tasting cereal thread.
I’m also fond of Peanut Butter Cheerios, Peanut Butter Toast Crunch, and the new Jif Peanut Butter cereal. I’m sensing a theme.
Aldi’s Berry Kid’s Krunch with Marshmallows.
It’s Cap’n Crunch. With Lucky Charms marshmallows.
Fiber One.
It’s one of the only cereals that has no added sugar. Tastes great and helps keep me regular.
Ohs. Very crunchy and sweet enough without being overwhelming.
The father of a hs boyfriend of mine worked in a cereal factory. He brought home a bag of the little freeze dried marshmallows once, because there was some manufacturing glitch. The bag was roughly the size of Chris Christie.
A million friends descended upon this unsuspecting home and we all ate little crunchy marshmallows until we were all on massive sugar highs. Some even tried, and claimed to like, bowls of straight marshmallows with milk. Personally, I do like them when they are crunchy, but not when they get rehydrated.
Very sweet cereals – 30% sugar and up – make me cringe. The household mainstays are cornflakes and generic Cheerios; a sweeter mix that’s part of the rotation is Trader Joe’s Maple Crunch. If they’re on sale, then Life and sometimes Kix get into the cart; variety is a good thing.
I love donuts. And french toast with syrup. But heavy sugar makes cereals less appealing.
Couldn’t help myself.
