Your favorite drummers

Chimpanzee you say? A chimp whacking on a log starts of my favourite drum album – a compilation of drum music called “Big Bang.” The chimp was recorded by Bernie Krause.

BTW, one of my favourite drum recordings is also on the Big Bang album – a track in which Baka forest people (Pygmy women) play water drums and chant.

I think it’s a case of “out of sight, out of mind”. He’s a good, solid drummer in a band that doesn’t really feature their drummer. Everyone in the band is a good musician so I think he gets lost in the shuffle. I seem to remember from a show a few years ago that they traded instruments a lot between songs, but I could be wrong about that.

But you’re right, he should be mentioned in these threads. And now he has been. I think he should let you into their next show for free.

As for your clapping; it could be worse. I tend to amuse myself by improvising off the audience clapping. (Syncopated eighths on the two and four while the crowd is clapping quarters on the one and three, for the music geeks.) People don’t like that, for some reason. I will advise against doing that if you are ever at a performance of Blue Man Group or Stomp!

My fabourite’sbeen mentioned, but Michael Shrieve from Santana. Here’s visual eveidence. From 3:08 onwards.

Manu Katche has done some great stuff with Peter Gabriel.

Many great performances in that clip.

My brother is a drummer so he’s introduced me to some great people. Just wanted to show more love for Jojo Meyer. He only got one nod on this thread, but he will wipe the floor with most everyone else on this list.

Also, no love for Akira Jimbo?

Fair enough. Good to hear that there’s love out there for Graham!

I concur!

I intended to make a list of my top 3, but, oh well…

Mitch Mitchell
Ginger Baker
