That looks like a low-carb diet.

A lot of those people are frauds. Not one of them has taken James Randi’s million, despite repeated offers.
From my understanding, the effects of dietary cholesterol on your blood cholesterol is not that bad–trans and saturated fats have more of an effect.

A low-fat diet and high-cholesterol intake (600mg/day) from shrimps in persons with normal levels of cholesterol raised LDL bad cholesterol by 7% but also raised HDL good cholesterol by 12% and decreased triglycerides (blood fats) by 13% - the LDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio dropped. In contrast, the low fat high-egg diet (cholesterol intake 600mg/day) raised LDL by 10% and HDL by 8% (and increased the ratio of LDL to HDL). In one study it was concluded that moderate shrimp consumption by persons with optimal levels of cholesterol did not affect overall lipoprotein profile and shrimp consumption could be included in ‘heart healthy’ guidelines.
Another page on it.
Scientists say high-cholesterol foods, like eggs and shrimp, pose little or no threat to most people. A new analysis of 224 scientific studies over 25 years by Wanda Howell at the University of Arizona concludes that eating cholesterol only slightly affects blood cholesterol. The primary villain is saturated animal fat, she says. A recent British study showed that cutting out 50mg of dietary cholesterol a day reduces blood cholesterol less than one point.
Other well-conducted studies show that low-fat shrimp and eggs, substituted for fatty foods, do not raise blood cholesterol and are not a major contributor to heart disease.
Anyhow, I don’t really do fad diets, but I’ve knocked down the carbs in my diet to maybe 40-50% of overall calories and, combined with exercise, have dropped 35 pounds and kept it off so far without tremendous effort. I guess it’s more the “lifestyle change” than anything else, but cutting down on carbs really helped keep me sated for longer, and just from a calorie standpoint, I never really quite noticed how energy dense a lot of carb-laden food is.

Interesting. Thanks for that.
I’ll be in my bunk – making love to a bucket of shrimp.

I think the OP is asking for ridiculous fad diets, but in all honesty I had a lot of success with South Beach. Lost over forty pounds back in 2004 and kept it off until this past winter when emotional junk and a leg injury conspired against me. Now that I want to lose weight again, I’m right back on it. Finishing up week two as we speak. Er, type.
I’m on day #12 of phase one. Lost 10 pounds so far. Getting kind of sick of eggs for breakfast though.
Way back in 1981 or so, my mom’s friend was on the gefilte fish diet. Nothing but gefilte fish. (When are we gonna get a barfing smiley, dammit!?)

You could ask your girlfriend if she’s ever tried the Green Bean diet.
Wait a minute…do you think I’m a guy?

I’m thinking about trying the Green Bean diet.
The seefood diet. I see food and I eat it! (original huh?)
Yeah, I don’t doubt that one old lady who has a house full of food “for her husband” is a fraud. However, that wiki article describes three cases where people really did starve to death trying to live without food. It is really pretty amazing to me that someone could be that dumb.
