The three Heisei Gamera films made between 1995 and 1999 are the best monster movies I’ve ever seen. You’ll believe a giant turtle can fly!
She wasn’t even American. Gorgo was a British film.
Gigan is my favorite “villain” monster followed by Megalon.
Gorgo, as has been said, was a British film, and she wasn’t so much an evil monster as a pissed off mother. Her baby had been kidnapped. As soon as she got him back they returned to the sea. No more of London got trashed after that.
Not many monster movies where all monsters live happily ever after.
Pixar disagrees with you.
Twice.
I’m kind of fond of the Impulse of Humanity to Put Our Strength of Ingenuity Towards Destructive Purposes, from the Godzilla films.
A bit…impersonal, to be sure. And of course, like the rest of the Toho monsters, one that would become more and more of a heroic figure as time went on.
It’s Gamera for me. He bypasses ridiculous and enters surreal.
This link reminded me of something that I wanted to ask everyone.
The very first link is the Maser cannon, and I always remember that from an oooollllddd Godzilla video game, but I can’t remember it fully and now I’m scared I made it up.
It was a game that had Godzilla and AT LEAST Mothra (if not more). I thought you played the monsters, but you could only move on squares, kinda like chess, and had a certain number of squares per turn. The human army was there and I remember this Cannon was devastating to the monsters.
It was almost a Final Fantasy based kind of fighting system, or rather closer to Shining Force if anyone remembers that.
Is this a real game or am I going crazy?
History shows again and again how Nature points out the folly of Man.
Shirime, of course.
Remember when two kids had to take a mini-sub into Gamera to remove some kind of infection?
Of course, my all time favourite is Johnny Sokko And His Flying Robot.
Reminded me of Fantastic Voyage, but without Raquel Welch in a snug fitting white diving suit.
The NES’ Godzilla game, maybe?
Yet another vote for Gamera!
No it’s not, but your link sent me to a place where I could find it.
It’s not as good as I remember, but I’m sure that’s pretty run-of-the-mill for childhood stuff
Super sentai, period.
I loved that game so much as kid. It’s weird to me that so few of the monster opponents are actually Godzilla-centered monsters.
It’s basically Hedorah, Gigan, MechaG and Ghidorah–the rest are from unrelated and largely obscure movies.
Yoko Ono.
