Your favorite romantic lyric. Only one line please.

Hon’ I love you, honey little honey funny sunny morning, love you more funny, love in the skyline baby.

-Syd Barrett, “Love You”

I walk the floor when you leave me

  • Al Green, “What A Wonderful Thing Love Is” (1972)

Tell me, what is my life without your love?

-George Harrison, “What Is Life”

Walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme.

“I love you like a Greek loves his chicken” – Matonia, Mia Cara by Orlando di Lasso.

“Let Miss Trixie sit up front” DBT~ Birthday boy.

A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square – originally sung by Vera Lynn, but the best is by Carl Welsman.

I just called to say I love you – the incomparable Stevie Wonder

Millions of people swarming like flies ‘round Waterloo Underground
But Terry and Judy cross over the river where they feel safe and sound
And they don’t
Need no friends
As long as they gaze on Waterloo sunset they are in paradise.

—Ray Davies of The Kinks, “Waterloo Sunset,” 1967

From Stan Rogers:

“I just want to see your smiling face 45 years from now.”

Then one by one the stars would all go out,
Then you and I would simply fly away.

A bit more sexy than romantic but I’ve always found this bit from Girl In Paris to be on point in an incisive way:

“No I don’t want to be friends,
no I don’t want to be friendly.”

“I’d trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday.”

Me and Bobby McGee

“I keep a close watch on this heart of mine…”

Just scrolled through my memory, then my playlists… nope. Hundreds of beautifully poetic lyrics, none of them romantic. Closest I’ve got is:

You pay your money and you take your chance,
when you’re dealing with love and romance.

Take my heart, take my whole life too
Cause I can’t help falling in love with you.

I prefer to think of it as “sampled.”

When you just give love and never get love you’d better let love depart; I know it’s so and yet I know, I can’t get you out of my heart - Lenny Welch ‘Since I Fell For You’.

It doesn’t sound like much, but such romantic anguish in one song!

Counting Crows, “Catapult”

“I wanna be the last thing you hear when you’re falling asleep”

Cheap Trick. “I Want You to Want Me”.

“I’d get home early from work if you’d say that you loved me.”

You ain’t a beauty, but hey, you’re all right,
and that’s all right with me.
