I just bought BNL’s Maroon!
Track 4 titled “go home”
has the lines
"If you think of her as Joan of Arc
She’s burning for you, get your car out of park.
If you think of her as Cathrine the great
Then you should be the horse to help her meet her fate.
I just loved them lines.
What are your favorite lines from a song?
“'Cause the record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance!” – Bruce Springsteen, Rosalita Mostly because of the utter joy expressed.
“The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No, no they can’t take that away from me”
– Ira Gershwin
“Roy Rogers on Trigger” (followed by sound of bottle filling with liquid) – Viv Stanshall, “The Intro and the Outro”
“But Englishmen detest a
Siesta” – Noel Coward, “Mad Dogs and Englishmen”
“If she says your behaviour is heinous,
kick her right in the Coriolanus”-- Cole Porter, “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” Hell, the entire song has incredible lyrics.
“I got the horse right here
The name is Paul Revere
And there’s a guy that says if the weather’s clear…”
– Frank Loesser, “Fugue for Tinhorns”
“On the clear understanding that this kind of thing can happen . . . .” – Oscar Hammerstein II, “Shall We Dance”
“When somebody loved my everything was beautiful
Every hour was spent together lives within my heart
And when she was sad I was there to dry her tears
And when she was happy so was I when she loved me”
Sarah McLaughlin - When She Loved Me
"A little sexual frustration combined with lack of motivation and a loss of concentration I got a strange disease
I can’t concentrate on work my libidos gone bezerk now I’m sweating through my shirt I got a strange disease.
You know, the law of averages says anything will happen that can.
But the last time the Cubs won the National League pennant was the year we dropped the bomb on Japan.
Then in flies a guy who’s all dressed up just like a Union Jack
He says I’ve won five pounds if I have his kind of detergent pack.
-Rolling Stones, Get Off of my Cloud
Quiet desperation is the English way
The time has come, the song is over,
Thought I’d something more to say
-Pink Floyd, Time
You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed
Now you know happy I can be
Whoa and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend
But how much baby do we really need?
-The Monkees, Daydream Believer (in the spirit of recent threads)
*So now I’m waiting for the end of time,
to hurry up and arrive,
'cause if I gotta spend another minute with you,
I don’t think that I can really survive.
I’ll never break my promise or forget my vows,
but God only knows what I can do right now
I’m waiting for the end of time,
that’s all I can do
Waiting for the end of time,
so I can end my time with you
It was long ago and it was far away, and so much better than it is today…*

::sigh::
Oh yeah, and my sig, which is from Only The Good Die Young, by Billy Joel.
Fingertips have memories, mine can’t forget the curves of your body, and when I feel a nit naughty, I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes, but no one ever does.
Been around the world and found that only stupid people are breeding, the cretins cloning and feeding, and I don’t even own a TV.
“Memories are just where you leave them/Drag the waters till the depths give up their dead,” and “She cries her life is like some movie black and white/Dead actors reading lines over and over and over again,”
The above are from Fuel’s song “Hemorrage,” which blanked out my mind when I first heard it. Those lines are poetry of a level not often seen in contemporary rock lyrics, in my humble opinion.
Okay, I’m the kind of person who can listen to a song, really like it, and not even know what it’s called or who sings it. These are some of those songs:
“Why-y? Why d’you always kick me when I’m hi-igh? Knock me down 'til we see eye to ey-ye…?”
I don’t remember what song that was or who sings it, but something about that last line, “knock me down 'til we see eye to eye” is really cool.
“You say money isn’t everything. Well, I’d like to see you live without it.”
That’s…um…Pearl Jam? I don’t know. But the song is called “Tomorrow” or something. I don’t know my songs well enough. But nevertheless, those are cool lyrics.
This song seems to sum up my life, until I met my wife.
This is my favorite parts…
So many cries in the night that you try to ignore
Why didn’t I do this? Why didn’t I do that?
So many unanswered prayers. So many unopened doors.
Why didn’t I take it? Why didn’t I make it come true?
(chorus)
The loneliest words you’ll ever know:
“If only if only it was so”
The emptiest words that they’ll ever be:
“It could have been me. It could have been me”
You’ll have to pay for it later
if you don’t get it when its going for free
Believe me! Believe me!
Let me think a bit here…:
1.“set me aflame and cast me free, away you retched world of tethers, through the endless night and day, i have never wanted more”-vnv nation, “solitary”
2."…but i can make you look with this gun, so maybe i’m not like everyone"-mesh, “people like me”
3.“i said, i wanna die with my hands around the right man’s throat, i said, i wanna die with my hands around the white man’s throat…” Foetus, “Free James Brown”
4.“Life shifts up and down, everybody knows it’s wrong, why don’t you care?”-Skinny Puppy, “smothered hope”
5.“don’t you worry, they won’t find my body, i want you to know i found peace in another world…”-Beborn Beton, "another world:
6.“Heroin, she said, was the best i had, no more mountains left to climb…”-Wolfshiem, “Heroin, She Said”
7.“Chemical Halo, burning bright in a sodium haze”- Chemlab-“chemical halo”
“I was drunk…the day my mom…got outta prison.
And i went…to pick her up…in the rain.
But before i could get to the station in my…pickup truck.
She got runned over by a damned ole train!”
David Allen Coe- You Never Even Called Me By My Name
Just a couple. I know there are more I like, but these are the only ones I can recall at the moment.

[li]“And I hope you’re thinking of me / As you lay down on your side / Now the drugs don’t work / They just make you worse / But I know I’ll see your face again” - The Verve, “The Drugs Don’t Work”[/li][li]“And if a double-decker bus / Crashes into us / To die by your side / Such a heavenly way to die / And if a ten-ton truck / Kills the both of us / To die by your side / The pleasure the privilege is mine” - The Smiths, “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”[/li][/ul]
You said you’d never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He’s not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say: do you want to make a deal?
Like a Rolling Stone
On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he stood smiling above me with a rock in his fist
Where the Wild Roses Grow
And then the man he steps right up to the microphone
And says at last just as the time bell rings
‘Thank you goodnight now it’s time to go home’
and he makes it fast whith one more thing
‘We are the Sultans.’
‘We are the Sultans of Swing’*
