I don’t really listen to a lot of soundtracks, but right now I am enjoying the one for Sympathy for Lady Vengeance which features a lot of violins (perfect for a thriller!).
I just saw the film yesterday, and I agree, the soundtrack is beautiful.
What else… I also enjoy John Williams’ movie themes.
Anything and everything by Bernard Herrmann. Honourable mentions especially for Fahrenheit 451, Citizen Kane and Taxi Driver.
Also, Jagged Edge by John Barry.
Agreed. I was surprised no one had mentioned Pulp Fiction yet. Also, Thirds and fourths on *O Brother Where Art Thou * and Blade Runner.
That’s one of my favourites. I loved the Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore soundtracks too.
I also love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Amelie.
Stewart Copeland’s soundtrack for Rumblefish
Mark Knopfler’s soundtrack for Local Hero
Both are excellent.
Ah. I see someone likes Jerry Goldsmith! Me too.
My favorites would include many Jerry Goldsmith (Under Fire, Planet of the Apes, The Russia House, Extreme Prejudice being but a few, but there are many, many more by him that I love). I recently saw The Black Hole again, and even though John Barry’s score got kind of bogged down sometimes, it still was great. Especially during the final scenes. Am also a fan of Bernard Herrmann, Maurice Jarre (Lawrence of Arabia, Witness), John Williams (Dracula, The Missouri Breaks), and Ennio Morricone (Marco Polo, Frantic).
Am I mistaken, or did we omit the james Bond soundtracks?
Truly, a master—even though I’m pretty sure Joel Goldsmith reused a theme from his Laserblast score in First Contact.
And if you like John Barry, you’ll love the Zulu soundtrack CD, which includes a number of selections from his other scores. (The theme to The Last Valley is an old favorite.)
Animal House
Resevoir Dogs
Paint your Wagon ( where else can you hear Lee Marvin AND Clint Eastwood, sing?)
I’ll have to check out the Laserblast score now, then! Hmm…this is interesting…
You are a corrupting influence! CD has been ordered. I have always wanted to get Zulu soundtrack but kept procrastinating. Glad I’m finally going to get it. The additional themes are just frosting on the cake.
Well, we’ve mentioned John Barry!
Cool World (the ULTIMATE techno album)
Bend It Like Beckham (the UK version, except they left out “Hot, Hot, Hot!”)
Lara Croft - Tomb Raider (perfect balance of tecno, alternative, and rap)
Moulin Rouge: Collector’s Edition (the crowd favorite)
Batman Returns
Beetlejuice
Star Wars Saga
And what can I say about the two masters of compostition. John Williams, Danny Elfman, best works ever!
Hiding Out, featuring the remake with k.d. Lang and Roy Orbison of “Crying”.
Ocean’s Eleven
The Big Easy–Dennis Quaid sings! A classic cajun album that I would have been playing lately if my IPod hadn’t crapped out . . . again.
