Your favorite toy/game as a child

For “store bought”: Any sort of building toy of the era: American Bricks (think wooden Legos that don’t really lock), Erector, Construction Girders, etc. Lincoln Logs were just too lame. Tinkertoys were great but I never got my own set of them. :frowning:

For “homemade fun”: There were a lot of junker TV, radio, etc., sets around the house. I did all sorts of wonderful and scary things with them. Imagine an 8 year old replacing tubes that had 2KV output.

I still do the latter, including computers, VCRs and CD players now.

Barbie (I was always jealous of my friend Kathy who had Barbie’s convertible, and Kathy’s mom could sew clothes for Barbie!)

and gerbils! I loved to play with my babies. One time I took the family outside to play in the grass. It was rough keeping them rounded up, but I managed. Then what do you know, a serpentine shape snaked through the grass. A snake was after my babies! I snatched that sucker right behind the head faster than The Crocodile Hunter could. (Thank goodness it was only a grass snake!)

Hide and go seek was our favorite outdoor game. We also used to run in the bayou behind our house, hunting for turtles and snakes. My mom loathed snakes. Hee-hee-hee.

Lego. I think I may go get one of those Mindstorm Kits.

Matchbox cars.

Action figures. A few Star Wars, a few from who-knows-where.

My pick was legos. I had hours of fun with those things. Looking back, I kinda wish I didn’t destroy or give away a lot of the pieces I had.

I loved legos, and I had an erector set as well, but Monopoly was and still is my all time favorite game. WAG, but I’d say my lifetime Monopoly win average is somewhere in the .800 to .900 range. (The secret is to have a great poker face when making a deal, and to make an offer a down on their luck player can’t refuse).

Creepy Crawlers.

Lego.

I already have a Mindstorm robot, and the video camera attachment.

legos, lincoln logs, army men, matchbox and hotwheel cars. liked avalon hill board games and actually had a friend who would play them with me. (rules for these games was studying for school! yuck!)

then there was the late 60’s yamaha JT-1 “mini-enduro”. rode that thing alot. then came the early 70’s suzuki TS-250. rode that thing as much as i could. then the end-all: 1982 yamaha IT-465. brand-new, the absolute baddest bike in the basin. rode that thing over and through every hill and mountain in the area. knew (still do, actually) every inch of the trail system where i grew up, a truly phenominal place to ride. what a blast! still own that bike, festering in the corner of my garage to this day.

still have the legos, too.
