The tunkie – it’s like a twinkie, only it’s white bread, with tuna salad inside. Perfect for the really lazy parent of a school-age child.

Our version of the “Suds and Duds” was “The Lost Sock.”
New Orleans has one too. It is called Igor’s and is more of a real bar with washing machines than just a laundromat that serves beer. The best thing is that it is open 24 hours a day and serves food too.

Just curious, do you know if these places were successful? We don’t have one around here, maybe it’s time we do.
Sorry, can’t comment on the success - I was blessed with a home washing machine at the time.
Igor’s is very successful. Like I said, it is a very real bar with regulars and everything. It is not set up like a novelty and it doesn’t advertise itself to be a laudromat too. However, you can go in a 3 in the morning and the front part of the bar will be packed with drunks and the back of it will have people doing laundry and drinking and socializing. It is located on St. Charles avenue which is one of New Orlean’s nicest and most expensive streets.
The only downside is your clothes all smell like cigarrette smoke.
Igor’s also gets some great up and coming bands. It’s a cool place to hang out, but I wouldn’t do my laundry there unless I was still in college and didn’t care how they smelled. (And IIRC most of Igor’s laundry clientele are college students. :))
