My wife did this last year. We both wear the same socks on any regular days now (No dress up), and our two kids wear the same socks too. It has made life so much easier!
When I leave the house, I’m satisfied that the door is locked on the first try, but then - THE KEY! WHERE’S THE KEY?!! I’VE LOCKED IT IN THE HOUSE - oh! pat pat There it is in my pocket. Heh. Let me pat my pocket just to make sure, again.
And again.
And again.
And again.
Also, I know my cow-orkers think I’m O/C, 'coz I HAVE to take my breaks at 10:30, 12:30 and 3:30. It’s actually because I have a little blood-sugar trouble and need to eat something. All they know is that if I don’t take my breaks then, I get shaky and irritable, until I’m able to get back on schedule.
Before I go to bed I must check all the locks. Even if I just locked the doors 30 minutes prior. I go in the kitchen, check the back door, turn off the light above the stove, go into the living room, turn off the tv, check the front door, turn down the thermostat and turn off the table lamp. In temperate weather add in checking all the windows to make sure they’re locked. Yes, even if I have just locked them. And yes, I start in the kitchen and make my way around the house.
I also can’t drink the last 1/2" of milk in a carton. We’re famous for leaving that last little bit, but for some reason I can’t make myself drink it.
I’m a counter, he’s a counter, don’t you wanna be a counter too?
I count my steps most of the time, but it’s a very back-of-the-brain kind of thing. I hardly ever remember how many they are because I’m not really paying attention to it, kind of like Muzak.
I always look for patterns in numbers. Phone numbers, license plate numbers, the balance in my checking account, etc. It could be a pattern like 2332 or an equation like 3396 (3x3=9. -3+9=6). I’ll point out really neat ones to my husband and he just nods and smiles at the crazy person, but I recently discovered that my Dad does the same thing. A whole family of crazy people!
I almost always set my alarm clock for a time that adds up to 9, although I’ll go with 7 or 5 occasionally, but it won’t be an exact hour. Usually my clock is at 9:36. Lucky for me my snooze button is 9 minutes long so even if I snooze I’ll get up at a 9 (or 7 or 5)!
