While I like in principle the idea of drinking organic tea, every one I’ve tried has been insipid. Has anyone tried any organic black tea and found it as flavorful as the old standbys?
I’m hoping I’m not forced to recognize that the thing I really like about the taste of tea is the pesticides.
Sorry, organic means [to me] that branch of chemistry dealing with carbon bearing substances. Since pretty much any form of tea found in my grocery store happens to be carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen arranged in pleasing formations with other elements scttered in for flavor, color and texture - tea is tea. Although I have noticed some generic teabag teas are worse than name brand teas, and I prefer twinings earl grey to bigelows [a matter of extract vs oil bergamot i think] YMMV.
Organic referring to foods found in stores to me means at least 10% additional cost for something ephemeral that seems to have absolutely no bearing on the health I experience. It occasionally means the fruit or veggie they are trying to flog off on me may be smaller, have bug nibble scars or be more expensive and not noticibly different from something from the veggie section of the local Shaws.
Some “organic” foods are such because of elimination of certain ingredients.
For example, I buy an organic ketchup that is just tomatoes, vinegar, and spices. That’s it, and it tastes far superior to any of the major brands. Otherwise, it is impossible to find any ketchup these days where the first or second ingredient isn’t high fructose corn syrup.
Organic tea though? Sounds like a marketing scheme to me. Tea is tea, some good, some bad, some wonderful. Check out your local Indian and Asian markets for good tea selections and enjoy exploring :).
I used to drink coffee. The doctor said it was killing me. Bastard. So, I started drinking tea. Started out with ®Lipton. Then I tried green tea. It sucked. Tried six or seven types of herb tea. They sucked. I tried five or six different brands of plain old tea, but extra wonderful for various reasons. Not enough better than ®Lipton to match the doubling in price. Then I got ®Lipton in a bulk pack, at half the supermarket price.
