I always walk on the balls of my feet. I also often stand that way, sometimes just on one foot. I make a game to see how long I can go without letting either of my heels touch the ground. For some reason, I especially can’t stand letting my heels touch the ground when I’m barefoot or in socks.
That could be partly physiological. I walk toe-ward because the long tendon in the back of my legs is a little shorter than most people’s. When I was younger, I made a deliberate effort to stretch it to the point that I could squat flat-footed, but when I stopped the stretching exercises, it shortened up again.
Could be. I definitely can’t squat very low while staying flat-footed. But I don’t feel any pain or anything while walking on my heels; it just feels unnatural and “crude” (I notice that some people put tremendous force through their heels; they send vibrations through the entire floor on each step). And from what I’ve read, using the balls of the foot makes for better form and lower impact, especially while running.
I’ve never been mocked for it. Actually, I’ve been complimented on it a few times–“wow, you really walk smoothly”.
My ex pointed out to me that I scratch my right eyebrow with the little finger of my right hand. And for no particular reason that she could see.
She also said that few people speak in complete sentences, but I speak in complete paragraphs. I think she meant that as a compliment, but I’m not sure.
Also I put my left sock on first, followed by my right sock, then my right shoe and finally my left shoe. I am sure that if I change this I will walk funny all day.
