Your Philosphy

I agree with most of what y’all have already said.
Here’s what I think (short version, generalized):

Life is neither accidental nor meaningless-- but it is NOT predetermined.

If there is a “God,” it’s indefinable. The closest I can come to expressing my idea of “God” is that it’s the continual evolution of the Universe.

Everything in the Universe is interconnected. That includes you, me, galaxies, and dog shit.

The boundaries between physical/spiritual, logical/emotional, matter/energy, objective/subjective, etc./etc. are all fuzzier than we’d like to think.

Natural laws are neither good nor evil; they simply are.

We may not have a “purpose,” but we ought to live as though we might.

We’ll probably never figure out “what it’s all about,” but it’s fun to try.
Life is far too important to be taken seriously.

The foolish man thinks he is wise. Only the wise man knows himself to be a fool.

LOVE.

In the end… what have you gotten out of your life if you haven’t loved? A good majority of our life is spent seeking this and only this. Love. If you haven’t loved what does your heart crave more then anything else? Love. When you’ve fallen out of love what do you yearn for most? What seems most important? Love. What hurts the most? Absence of love.

Why are we on this earth? Spiritually speaking its often “to love” one another. Non-spititually speaking and stripped to its rawness, to procreate. When is procreation at is most glorious? When your in love.

Experienced bits of this philosophy… working on the rest.

True, Whammo.

No one ever said on his deathbed “I wish I’d spent more time at the office.”

God doesn’t care what you do; this is a good thing. Do whatever you want as long as it’s legal and honest. While the best things in life are free, the second-best things are really expensive. Embrace materialism; it may be your only chance. A reputation of honesty will serve you better than the capacity to redeem yourself. There are many market forces at play; try to be one of them. Don’t sleep through life. If you don’t shut that dog up right now, I will. When all else fails, try brute force. Ignorance always attacks from at least two fronts. Rhetoric is an offensive form of deception: Technically, eating a steak is gorging one’s self upon the charred flesh of a mortal virgin; technically, genocide is a demographic restructuring. Good traits are not always adaptable traits. Live each day as though you were immortal. Try not to confuse cause and effect. Do not follow advice given to you by a computer, ever. When you think about it, baseball is an idiotic game; never play baseball. If you have a difficult task, give it to a lazy person; he will find an easy way to do it. Every sin can be a virtue in the right circumstances. You do not live in a truly democratic country, but that’s okay. The key to successful communication is to be concise. Oops.

Oh, and the simplest yet most neglected rule for living:

Be nice.

“Do good.”

to SpoilerVirgin:

“Well done.”

 My philosophy comes from the final episode of the sitcom “Boy Meets World”. It wasn’t a show that I normally watched, and I’m not sure why I watched the final episode, but for some reason it stuck with me.

The kids, all grown up, were saying goodbye to their teacher. He offered a number of words of wisdom about following your dreams and such, and then added, “Do good.”

One of the kids asked him, “Don’t you mean, ‘Do well’?”

He replied, “No, do good.”

It summed things up nicely for me.

Also true!

When I’m in a cynical mood, my philosophy is “Nothing is ever easy.” This stems from having to wait in line for what seems like months when all I want to purchase is a can of cola or something.

Overall, though, my philosophy is from the Book of Proverbs, Chapter 3, verses 5 and 6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

And when in doubt…

Don’t just do something! Stand there!

Let’s see what I can think of as my personal philosophy in bits and pieces…[ul]
[li]Life isn’t supposed to be easy; if things were simple, then we’d get bored.[/li][li]Don’t let other people’s problems and lives come before yours; we all need to focus on ourselves because we may be the only ones we can count on in the end.[/li][li]Today might be your last day; make it count for something.[/li][li]Try to see the world through a different person’s eyes when you can.[/li][li]Be nice to people, but don’t decieve them.[/li][li]If something bothers you, do something about it.[/li][li]Don’t let your dreams fade hidden away in a box; take what’s special about you and develop it into something useful.[/ul][/li]That Rambo quote got the song “What Would Brian Boitano Do?” stuck in my head. Thanks guys. ::smiles and winces at the song’s annoyingly funny qualities::

If something is not worth doing, it is not worth doing well. Find out what is important and minimize the amount of time you spend on trivia because tempus fugit. Do nothing to excess. Clasp on to proven friends with hoops of steel. Act honestly and honourably. If you don’t know the answer say so. Don’t interfere with others until their actions interfere with the common good, in which case you are obliged to state your views. Live simply, and don’t do pompous things for the purpose of impressing others. Always have a good book on the go, do some exercise of some sort every day, eat less and less often of the fattening foods you enjoy but don’t give them up altogether, try and make life better for other people around you and they will reciprocate since in the end what comes around goes around. There’s always time for coffee, always room for more love in the world, always an opportunity to be compassionate and forgiving to people you have at your mercy. Try and learn something new every day, and try to teach someone something they never knew before. Learn to say “no”, “sorry” and “excuse me”. Be happy, the secret to happiness is simply to have everything that you want. Don’t want things you don’t really need, and don’t try to have it all, since then you will never be happy.

Happiness is found not in having what you want, but in wanting what you have.

Also, you’ll be happier if you use things and love people rather than love things and use people.

Oh, I forgot one last thing:

Moderation is for monks.

You don’t want to know. Really.

Hmmm… Some of my tidbits:
[ul]
[li] Hugs are better than handshakes.[/li][li] Life is worth living, no matter how hard it is.[/li][li] If its raining and your gonna get wet, don’t bitch. It only makes it worse.[/li][li] Try everything once.[/li][li] Don’t kill anyone, or have sex with kids.[/li][li] You’ll gather more flys with honey than vinegar, but sometimes you just need some Raid.[/li][li] Don’t worry about the things you can’t change.[/li][li] Change the things that you can.[/li][li] Anarchy is fun, until someone pokes an eye out.[/li][li] Never give all your love to one person. Save a little for everyone else.[/li][li] Sex is not bad, so just do it.[/li][li] Save when you can, party when you can’t.[/li][li] Beer.[/li][li] Lastly. Never, ever, ever, never loose your imagination. As long as you have that, you can live forever.[/li][/ul]

I pretty much live by these rules, and they cover just about everything in life when you twist them the right way.

respect and responsibility.
oh, and I’m down with the beer thing too.

Life is short. Make fun of it.
