A glass of tonic water with added gin.
Floater wins!
Lots of beaches without salt, at least around here.
I picked “lake”. I grew up in Whitby, a town on the north shore of Lake Ontario. We would go to the beach for a break, but Whitby Beach is stony. For true summer fun, we’d go east to wide white beaches with warm shallow water, like Cobourg Beach or Outlet Beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park.
The alternative was to go north to the cottage, located on a lake near Algonquin Park. There, we enjoyed the fresh air and beautiful scenery, and our cottage had a tiny beach of multicoloured granite sand (the different minerals in the local granite bedrock had apparently worn to grains of different sizes, and the water sorted them by size, so the beach had irregular stripes of black, purple, red, and yellow).
Lately I have fallen in love with the beauty of the Bruce Peninsula.
My grandfather’s pool is the main gathering place for that side of the family, at least during the summer. (Other seasons, it’s still their house, but indoors).
Here in Missouri, drunken river float trips are the standard weekend getaway for most people. Followed closely by trips to Lake of the Ozarks.
Sure beats the pool for noodelin’.
I live on the beach in San Diego, and one thing I’m looking forward to most is a dip in the river when I get home. There’s just nothing like floating down the river with a beer in your hand.
I prefer the ocean, but haven’t been swimming in one since I was a kid. We go to the lake every year, which is nice (and private).
Barrier islands along the east coast of the USA. Ocean, inlets, waterways, bays, etc.
Your poor land-locked sons-of-bitches… I weep for you.
Don’t worry, the right people will get it.
The ocean. But then again it’s only a few miles away. This’ll be the fifth weekend in a row swimming in the Atlantic.
Beach/ocean. This year, the Mediterranean (southern France).
I voted for Beach/Ocean. Second favorite? Waterbed.
When I lived at the shore in Va Beach, I preferred the ocean/beach combo, when I live away from the shore I prefer lake/beach.
Unfortunately now, with my various handicaps, the safest option for me is pool/hot tub. I do not trust my ability to deal with surf and possible tides. Granted I am fat enough I float like a freaking cork, but getting washed out to sea is a definite hazard I do not choose to deal with.
This is a quality view, would like to tout it as my own.
