Not a gun, but a sword. He is going to use Godric Gryffindor’s sword. However, there will be something about using it to kill He Who Must Not Be Named will cause Harry to give up his wizarding powers.

My favorite theory is even past that. Ever read All You Zombies by Heinlein? Yeah, that’s it.
I’m thinking of starting a thread about spoilers for Harry Potter 7 that are really spoilers for other things. For instance, one of the horcruxes is actually a sled. Anyone interested?

Forget trivialities like time travel. Voldemort masters a spell that allows him to escape from the fictional universe containing Hogwarts into the real world in which we live, where he kills off J.K. Rowling, and the whole thing goes poof! in a recursive logical collapse. By July 22, we remember nothing of Rowling’s fictional world.
I had a kooky idea last night and I wonder if anyone else thinks that it’s plausible. We know that Voldemort wanted Snape to be at Hogwarts after Snape told him about the prophecy, presumably to have Snape spy on Dumbledore. But what if it was more than that? What if Snape’s real mission was to, say, steal the sword of Gryffindor (for use as a horcrux), or maybe even to capture or kill Dumbledore? If Snape felt that he was being rewarded for bringing critical information to his master by being assigned to what is most likely a suicide mission, that could explain why he would return to Dumbledore’s side.

I can see Gryffindor’s sword coming into play somehow, but it seems a reach.
We know from Harry’s time in the pensieve that he actually does resemble James, so the Voldy is his father thing is right out.
What do we know of Harry’s strengths:
excellent flyer
coporeal patronus
reliable friends (Ron, Herm and the DA)
" not a bad mind" (if only he could control his emotions a bit more!)
reputation that precedes him wherever he goes.
curiousity
“desire to prove himself”
excellent teachers, if only he’d paid attention (Dumbledore, Black, McGonnagall, Quirrell, Voldy himself etc).
Funds
wand in good condition
Invisibility cloak
Loyalty of house elves
on speaking terms with one giant
“safe” havens within the wizarding world (the joke shop, the Weasley’s home, Grimmauld Place, Hogwarts).
I am not sure what delineating these does, but it helps organize my mind. Anyone else have any thoughts? Perhaps we should list Voldy’s assets as well…

Not entirely true. There’s only a magical barrier preventing the boys from entering the girls’ dorm. Hermione and Ginny have both entered the boys’ dorm without problems.
But it hasn’t prevented Hermione from getting into the girls’ dorm, which I guess can be extrapolated to definitive proof that she’s not a boy…
And there is one of my favorite lines in book 4 (I laughed out loud–and Emma blew it in her delivery in the movie)…Ron looks at her (desperate for a date for the dance) and says, “Hermione, you’re a girl.” She retorts, “Oh, well spotted.”
I love that.
She’s female.

There are some great chapter synopses at this LiveJournal community, although they’re only halfway through GoF so far.
Maybe it wasn’t so much that Snape had a crush on Lily, but that she was one of the few people at school who was actually nice to him?
Snape taking the Unbreakable Vow-perhaps he did it to protect Malfoy? Even as evil as Draco is, I can still see Snape wanting to keep him safe.
And as much as I loved Dumbledore, I think having him come back would be totally cliche and would actually make the book suck.
Harry being related to Voldemort-I believe Rowling has already said that Harry’s grandparents aren’t important to the story.
Didn’t Lily and James hide out in Godric’s Hallow? Maybe after they were murdered, the name changed to Deathly Hallow. Bringing everything full circle.

The final scene: After defeating the Dark Lord and dancing outside on a wonderful day the sky becomes grey and overcast. All look ahead and wonder if the Dark Lord is actually back, but instead they see that although it is summer it is beginning to snow. All are confused, Hermione throws herself into Ron’s arms, Draco does likewise for Harry, and as they dance in the snow the earth begins to shake, violently almost, but nothing is destroyed. In the film version the camera will pull back further and further and further, almost like Google Earth until ultimately it is a globe, but the globe is see-through, glass, and inside it snows, and it’s being held by a poor neglected autistic child living under a staircase who has imagined 7 books he can’t write. (Strangely he’s no longer played by Daniel Radcliffe but by Chad Allen, who turns to the form sleeping next to him, Suzanne Pleshette.)

Any chance Dumbledore could have a horcrux? It’s not inconceivable he killed somebody during the war with Voldemort or his other misadventures over the past century. OR that the sword of Gryffindor could be a horcrux for Godric Gryffindor rather than Voldemort?
I doubt it. At the start of the first book, [del]Macgonnag[/del] [del]McGonnig[/del] that woman tells Dumbledore that he has many powers that he is too good and decent to use.
