Your top-10 or 20 films of this decade.

Damn, damn things almost over. Rank them clowns! I’m open to top 20, but top-10 is a real battle royale.

  1. Inland Empire
  2. Synechoche, NY
  3. The Brothers Bloom
  4. The Saddest Music in the World
  5. Mulholland Dr.
  6. It is fine. Everything is fine!
  7. Requiem for a Dream
  8. There will be blood
  9. The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain
  10. Primer
    yugo
  1. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
  2. LOTR: The Two Towers
  3. Spider-Man 2
  4. Stranger Than Fiction
  5. LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring
  6. Batman Begins
  7. Sin City
  8. X-Men 2
  9. The Pianist
  10. Memento

  6. I’m Not There
  7. Where Has Your Hidden Smile Gone?
  8. In Praise of Love
  9. Werckmeister Harmonies
  10. A Hole in My Heart

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, I always forget that Werckmeister came out this decade! That is in my top 5 for sure.

In random order:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Milk
Almost Famous
Brokeback Mountain
O Brother Where Art Thou
Requiem for a Dream
Wall-E
The Dark Knight
The Departed

I haven’t seen a lot of the movies mentioned so far, and for the LOTR and Harry Potter movies in particular I feel that too much of my enjoyment of them was in seeing something I was already well familiar and in love with painted on the big screen to compare them with movies that I truly saw fresh and new.

Those aside then, off the top of my head my ten favorite movies in no particular order released from 2000-2009 would be something like:

Catch Me If You Can
Cast Away
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Moulin Rouge!
Spirited Away
Finding Nemo
House of Flying Daggers
(which I liked rather better than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon)
Oldboy
A Beautiful Mind
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
(like The Matrix trilogy, the first one was awesome, the follow-ups bloated)
These movies I can and would rewatch again and again and enjoy them each time.

ETA: crap, I forogt “Goodbye, Lenin!” in this list, as well as “Lola Rennt”, which would bump something or other on here… oh well.

I’ll have a stab. Off the top of my head…

In Bruges
Goodbye Lenin
There Will Be Blood
Serenity
Shadow of the Vampire
No Country for Old Men
Memento
Ghost World
Shaun of the Dead
Pan’s Labyrinth

My personal favs, in no particular order:

I’m sure later on I’ll think of something else that should be on here, and most of the ordering beside the top 7 or 8 could change depending on the day I do the list. It should be fairly close though. Maybe.

A lot of the films mentioned so far I have not seen.

Roughly in order:

O Brother Where Art Thou
The Incredibles
Big Fish
Once
Spirited Away
Lars and the Real Girl
Let the Right One In
Juno
The Prestige
Charlie Wilson’s War
Waitress

No order:

Before Sunset
No Country For Old Men
Kitchen Stories
To Be And To Have
Ghost World
The Man on the Train
About A Boy
Amelie
Mulholland Drive
Spirited Away
The Man Without A Past

Haven’t finished “Inland Empire” yet - GF came home while I was watching and I had to turn it off - but I liked what I’d watched a lot.

This is sort of pathetic. I am having trouble recalling even three movies I’ve enjoyed from the past decade. I’ve had to check my IMDb profile to even remember what was made during that time. So while I’m sure I’ve left a bunch out, here are ten I thoroughly enjoyed.

Ghost World
Wendy and Lucy
Waking Life
The Descent
Let the Right One In
Audition
Half Nelson
Brick
The 40-Year-Old Virgin
Hard Candy

I don’t know about “top” but the 10 I’d least want to go without…

Pride and Prejudice (2005)
The Prestige
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

  16. The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill
  17. Little Miss Sunshine
  18. The Pursuit of Happyness

I just saw it for the first time a few days ago but I think “The Visitor” was one of the best movies I have watched for the last couple of years.

(I mention it because I didnt see it on any of the lists above)

Well my netflix queue just got a little longer. I haven’t even heard of many of these.
